328i sluggish acceleration
My 328i, 2007 engine has been running well until last week when I noticed a slugglishness when I accelerate. However, I suspect that the service techs will claim it is within specs.
Has anyone else had this problem with 328i, and if so, any recommendations (besides acceptance unless it gets noticably worse)? |

It's a MT, does that matter? I always use highest octane which is 91, I don't think it's related to my gas since I believe it has happened several tanks ago, but I'll keep track.

If it's been a while since you've changed your oil, you may want to do that. I changed mine after 9,000 miles. I just couldn't wait until BMW's recommended 15k miles service. That just didn't seem right. After the oil was changed, it was a different car. The engine was smooth and I gained acceleration. Also, I always use fuel system cleaner every 5k miles. That should open up the fuel injectors a bit and give you a boost.

thx for recommendations. The sluggishness seemed to occur one day, I don't feel it came on gradually so I doubt the oil could be the problem. Next time I go into BMW I'll let them look at it. I'm sure they will say no fault found though.

When I took to get it fixed, with the engine warm, it wasn't present.
It seems like it sort of went away, but last week it came back. It is noticable around ~ 2100 rpm. Of course, it's more obvious when the engine is cold, but when for the first couple years I owned the car, even when engine was cold there was no sluggishness. Does anyone else have this issue? |

Try the BMW fuel injector and manifold service. I got it done at the dealer. Feels great afterwords.

I would give some BMW fuel system cleaner a try first. Think it is just rebadged Chevron Techron stuff. If that doesn't work, take it in. Mine was running a little rough so I dropped a bottle in. Really seems like it is much better after just a quarter tank. I was quite surprised. I might do a MAF cleaning just for good measure.

i love it when people chime in and are not helpful at all. why not recommend getting an m3, im sure your 335i feels much slower than an m3. he's asking for help not smartass responses.

Maybe you just got a bad tank of gas? It's been known to happen.

happened to me when filling up at some middle of nowhere gas station on a trip which claimed 91 octane. definite difference in the way the car drove. I try to stick with gasoline from shell, bp, quick trip etc.

How many miles, and how many miles between service
It could be the result of the reduced maintenance schedule that BMW implemented
"with the free maintenance program" You may need plugs changed , air filter changed , etc. |

Thanks for all of the responses. The sluggishness is very sporadic which makes it tough to figure out. Might be apparent for a couple days and go away again.
Gas: Seems like I might see some correlation near the fill up time, but I never have found any correlation with gas Addititives: I thought that BMW might try to void warranty or blame the problem on that. Of course, I have no idea how they would ever know if I tried it. |
