Maserati says that its three model lineup is now complete with the GranCabrio, a topless version of its shapely two-door GranTurismo. Although it is set to formally debut next month at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Italian automaker released a handful of images and some basic details about its upcoming drop-top.

Maserati’s lineup had been without a convertible since the Spyder ended production about two years ago. That drop-top had signaled Maserati’s successful return to the lucrative North American market nearly a decade ago.

Maserati says that the GranCabrio will be powered by the same 4.7-liter V8 that does duty in the GranTurismo. Its canvas top eschews the now-common folding metal hardtop for increased luggage space and for a visual link to past Maserati drop tops. The Italian automaker says that the 115.8-inch wheelbase, shared with the coupe, is the longest such wheelbase on a convertible.
