What to do to TASTEFULLY mod my e92
Hello all,
I'm about to get a new 335i coupe, and I want to make sure I mod it the right way, so I need your suggestions! First off, the color will either be space grey metallic or black metallic, with black interior regardless. To start off, window tint is a must, as I live in South Florida, and I like the look anyway. What are some performance upgrades that I can do to the car? I basically want to go very big with this: exhaust, chips, air-intakes, everything. But I just need to know what can be done overlapping with what. I want this car to scream, and I also want some aesthetic mods. Are there any good aftermarket body kits that add a sporty look, or is the best bet the Aero Kit from BMW? also, as far as wheels... are there any dark grey / gunmetal or black wheels available FROM BMW? I love nice rims, but I'd prefer they be from Bimmer. Let's see... I think I've covered it all. I'm really not good at this, but I want my car to be great. Thanks so much for the help. |

I always start with "drivability"... think Bud Light here. My suggestions in different stages.
Suspension/Drivetrain: putting power to the ground and turns 1. short shifter kit + knob 2. aluminum pedals 3. coilovers 4. wider wheels and tires 5. sway bars (rear is an expensive install) 6. strut bar (might as well get with #4) 7. limited slip differential (baller status) Performance: more boost at lower temps 1. intercooler 2. cold air intake or drop-in w/scoops 3. tune: jb3, procede, giac 4. down pipes: catless for more power / catted to pass smog 5. turbo back exhaust: go for sound Cosmetics: last on my list as I like to be a "sleeper" 1. front m-tech bumper 2. m3 side skirts 3. rear m-tech bumper OR stock bumper w/ hamman CF diffuser Essential cosmetics: for those who stay stock 1. painted reflectors 2. replace chrome kidney grills: black, painted, CF, etc. 3. driver side keyhole delete 4. custom license plate frame: your favorite shop, e90post, painted, CF, etc. 5. emblems: black, CF, etc. for front, rear, steering wheel + center caps |

I think it really depends on what/how/where you want to go with this car. Are you looking for a sleeper type of look or something very loud. Theres tons of options about there. As far as Tunes go, there are definitely some proven ones like the JB3 and/or Procede. Really depends on the features / power they offer married with its cost. Thats probably oen of the big ones. Otherwise, theres a whole host of bolt ons to go with. Stating the obvious, the more air flow you open up with a Turbo car, the more power you will receive. So Chip, FMIC, Intake, Downpips, midpipes, catback etc. Its really proven at this point...you just have to decide how much your willing to spend. Full bolt ons with Tune your looking at close to 400 rear wheel or so....
As far as costemic mods go. As I said above, its really your call. You can go very mild, go very loud and some sort of plain in between. I would suggest some BBS wheels and full Msport kit or something that nature. I personally like the OEM the best as noone can do it better than the BMW engineering team themselves (if cost is no issue). Lastly- Enjoy the car. Dont let the mods take on a life of its own. You own the car, not the other way around. Hope this helps...

there alot to do. but the thing is, after while alot of the cars on this forum begin to look the same. painted grills, painted reflectors, CSL reps, M3 spioler, M-tech kit......yadda, yadda, yadda.
if you ask everyone, i guarantee you get the same anwers over and over. the best thing to do is just give it some time, get to know your car and just take notes on some of the mods you see. i say that, because everyone has their own taste. and when you get the car, you'll find certain things about the car that you love and certain things that you hate. just mod accordingly. congrats and good luck with the car. post some pics when you get a chance.
