328i: Sports Package or Aftermarket Rims
Well I am looking to order this weekend. The only reaosn I see of getting the sports package would be becuase of thw rims. I dont value the higher speedo or the seats to much. I can imagen how dirty the seat could get in the gap where it extends. I dont want to spend 3-4k on rims my limits is under 2k. What would you do? Also does anyone know of any sites like tirerack where you can see how the rims would look on the car? Tirerack doesnt have the 328 or 335 yet

James presuming 328 is like 325/330, sports package changes the following:
lower springs, seats, steering wheel, wheels/tires. If you get decent aftermarket wheels, budget approximately $1,750 - $2,000 for wheels and tires. You will definitely want to lower the car after the wheel and tire upgrade. Even if you don't think you will now, trust me, later, you will (ask ANYONE who has had upgraded wheels on ANY car). So now you buy a sset of springs. Unless you're lucky enough to have a shop like DTM, in Southern Cali do the whole combo for $350, expect to spend $240 on the springs and at least $300 on installation. Now you're at $540. Add that to the approximately $2k on wheels and tires and you're at $2,500 approximately (maybe 300 or so less if you get good deals). So if the wheels/tires are most important to you, it will cost you approximately $2,200 (pre-tax) to do it right. Thats entry level, but that will get you looks and decent wheels. This is what I am doing. if you are really into modding cars, it may be worthwhile to go ahead and get the sport package because the sport steering wheel can be exchanged for a BMW M sport steering wheel which looks really cool. Many say the sport seats are also more comfortable. hope this helps.

tl,
i am under the impression with the new coupe the height is the same. i was not aware the steering wheel was different that you for pointing that out. anothet thig i am worring about is how the wheels hold up. i currently drive a 98 accord and i put 17's on it and after a few wear the car drove like sh*t. i had managed to bend up all the wheels. it might have been sicne they were cheaper allesio's (sp). james |

As TL Boy mention you better off getting the sport package when order with the car and save a bundle. Take his advise.

The E92 Coupe comes standard with the sport suspension in the US. The E90 sedan sport package is well worth the $1,600. It lowers the car, has better bushings/springs, sport seats/steering wheel, and +1 road wheels. Most of all, the suspension has been tuned to use runflat tires. I'd question any after-market company having the budget to tune the suspension as good as BMW does for run-flats. |
