Giac Stage 2/2+

Any word on when this is going to be released to the public?

Also any updates on OBDII scanner/flashback to be able to revert to stock map?

Considering stg 1 was just finalized and released, it's gonna be a few months! I wanna know when the heck the "stock" program is going to be available. Only thing keeping me from getting this flash.

It might be a few months before the flash loader but as far as the stage 2 program, that might be sooner than you think.

if it's anything like the price of what it costs for my vw/audi one, maybe along the lines of $200-$250ish. I'm wondering how much they are going to charge for the xtra programs if you've already purchased the stg 1 flash.

god i hope not...i want to get the flash but the nearest dealer is 2 hrs away. That a long ways to go to have to get flashed back to stock, then back to flash for dealer visits...too much driving and work. I'm hoping that they utilize the BT Tool like they did with the VAG COM cable for the Audi/VW. All you have to do is go to their site and download the software to change it via lap top using the usb-to-OBDII cable. Even if they don't come out with the handheld switcher right away.

Flashes do not throw manipulation codes.

Dealers havn't noticed and won't notice the flashes.

Yes they need to sell a hand held to store stock tune and down load new tune. We use sct device at work and it hold three tunes 91 oct ,93oct and race tune. Stocktune gets sucked out and stored on hand held and can be returned back to stock in 2 minutes.

Like I mentioned before, with GIAC they utilized the VAG COM cable (which is nearly identical to our BT Tool) for the VW/Audi guys (I know because I have used it both my B5 Audi S4 and currently my wife's VW GTI) to be able to switch maps using a lap top instead of a handheld switcher. Go to GIAC's website and check out the "map switching" software they have available for download. So yea, if GIAC doesn't utilize the BT tool then you WILL NEED the handheld switcher to switch maps, but if they do us BMW guys right then hopefully we can use our BT Tool to switch maps as well...

Wish Austin or someone from GIAC would chime in...

Also, I already own one of their handheld switchers and it only works some of the time. So I tend to use my laptop on my wife's VW to switch from stock to flash for dealer visits.

That's a heck of an assumption.

And it's also incorrect. They are currently detectable with a little bit of work and, very soon, easily detectable by standard dealership inspection.

Can't they just view boost level at the DME now that it is seeing the full 13+?

There are two issues that don't work well in flash tune's favor. For one, the dealerships will soon interrogate the DME beyond a simple checksum test. So a non OEM ROM image will stick out like a sore thumb. Two, any trouble codes triggered under boost will reveal clearly non-stock shapshot data (such as higher-than-normal boost pressure). So if you take your car into the dealership for a code that was triggered under load, you'd want to erase it first and then try, sometimes in vain, to trigger it again with the stock ROM (and 5-7psi) before taking it in.

this is another assumption. I can see every dealer going through the ECU codes of every 335i to spot a flash...

It will be a part of the basic scope test during scheduled maintenance.

Good to know. that's why i never go to the dealers anyway for oil changes :-) will see if your "sources at BMW " are correct or if you are as usual just trying to find any possible arguments on other products to market your own....
