Got a crack on my window...
Okay... it started from a tiny little rock chip and now the crack is spreading 2ways and they are about half a foot each. What should I do?
going to the dealer will be so much $$$$, but going to the body shop is somewhat risky. give me some suggestions! ![]() |

insurance should pay to fix it, for free. otherwise, go to safelite.com and ask them to fix it. put some tape over it in the meantime, on the outside of the window to prevent dirt from going in and it spreading. avoid parking in sunlight.

is is smaller than the size of a dollar bill? if so, they should be able to fix it. I would suggest trying to fix it rather than replacing.
Now if your replace make sure: 1)Its Pilkington (OEM) glass because we have rain sensors. 2) Make sure they connect everything back properly. Insurance will probably charge you a deductible to replace.

unfortunately it is longer than a dollar bill and it is going two ways. I have no other way than replacing it. now my question is whether to go to the dealer to replace it or go to a body shop. cause it'll be much more expensive if the dealer takes the job... BTW thanks tl boy for all replies.

if its coming out of your pocket, don't go to the dealer. go to a reputable auto glass shop in your area. make sure they know it has rain sensors, and make sure to use Pilkington glass.
good luck.

Never heard a dollar bill a foot long
![]() No way to fix it at this point, needs to be replaced. The issue is the rain sensor that pushes the price of glass way up. Try with your insurance, although if the deductable is $500, it is still costly... Good luck. |

unfortunately my deductible is $700 and I guess I'd better off to pay from my pocket. hope it doesn't go too high. |

I had the same thing - American Family had a $100 deductible and I had it replaced at the dealer since they only do BMW's. It took 45 minutes and they did a great job -- my 2 cents

Crack like the one you have is dangerous, it will spread and may make your windshield fail. So you really have no choice but to fix it. I would recommend that no matter what shop you go to, you insist they use OEM windshield with the rain sensor and tint in it. Essentially you would not pay the dealer hourly rate to install and the dealer mark-up on the part. |

glass insurance is a small subset of your car insurance with a different (and smaller) deductable than your comp or collision
I had my glass replaced at my dealer for about 100 bucks. the claim will not increase your premiums 1 cent |
