SWS-8 Shortage?
Read below...according to Earthquake, there is a shortage of 4-Ohm SWS-8's out there right now.
Chris, We are totally out of the SWS8X (4 ohm version)for another 2 weeks. The only one we have right now is the SWS8XI ( 2 ohm version). We are having a huge demand from BMW owners. Best Regards, US SALES Manager www.earthquakesound.com Email: us-sales@earthquakesound.com ADDR: 2727 McCone Ave, Hayward, CA 94545 U.S.A. PH#: 510-732-1000 TOLL FREE: 1800-576-7944 FAX: 510-732-1095 They said I can use 2 ohm as long as they are wired in series...my question is, what is the factory setup? Parallel? If so, can I just pull the factory wiring off one sub or the other and just run a wire from the existing sub so that they will then be in series? And will that affect performance? |

Are you talking about wiring the two drivers off of factory amplification? Or a new amplifier? If so, what amplifier?
Depending on the aftermarket amp, you might need to series, you might be OK in parallel. For the factory amp, I think you would be fine wiring normally, because the OE are "2 ohm", but I don't have any faith that they would sound acceptable to me. |

Right on...just wanted to order now and didn't want to get something that won't work. I have an Alpine mono amp that's good for 500 @ 2 Ohms or 300 @ 4ohms so either way it should be plenty of power. So I was thinking it may be better to wire them in series anyways to get more power. Thoughts?

You don't have a choice.
Two 2 Ohm voice coils on a single channel are either wired parallel for 1 Ohm or series for 4 ohms. The Alpine mono amp is not rated for 1 Ohm operation. It will shut down due to its low-impedance protection being triggered. So wire them in series. You will not get more power, but it will be plenty. |

I just finished an install with 2 2ohm sws8's wired in series with a JL audio 900/5 amp and I am very pleased with the result.

If it were me I would wait for the subs you actually want to be available.
It would be a shame to go through the install and purchase to do it again. (I have the 2 ohm version running with a low power stereo amp.) |
