shift knob - installed
I want to change my shift knob for a shorter/heavier one (not a short shift kit). Looking for the coolest knob around...
Looking for a place that has a good selection, and if you guys have pics or experiences, any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Last edited by pdude; 10-09-2009 at 09:15 AM.. |

M-Tech knob & eBrake handle cover, perfect match for my M-Tech steering wheel. The knob is about an inch shorter than the stock one and it feels great:

i have the m-tech knob as well and love it..one of my favorite mods..you can tell its high quality just by looking at it let alone the feel..i was going to go with a rlly heavy metal one at first..but thought against it considering it gets so damn cold in the winter here and id rather not leave some skin behind as i take my hand off the -20º shift knob...whatever you decide post some pics and let us know! good luck

Do you guys know where I could get a uucmotorwerks coupon code?
I'm looking at getting this, but the price could be better: http://www.uucmotorwerks.com/RK6AL/RK6AL_4.JPG |

I ordered it from oversteer.com... I called UUC they didn't have any, and won't make any till next month. John @ UUC mentioned understeer, and they had it in stock. No discount from the guy, but free shipping.
UUC offered 10% OFF and free shipping, but they only had RK7, which is metal engraved top. Will post pics when I get it installed. |

How is the height of the RK-6 compared to the performance one? I currently like the shortness and "arcade" feel of the performance. Also, did you swap out the top insert...looks blank? |

Installed - RK6AL
This thing is HEAVY... SHORT... and really nice. Perfect fit, I think it looks sharp. Don't care for the top insert too much, feels too 'rubbery', not like the OEM hard plastic. I wish I could have a blank one actually.
Here is a couple pics in different gears. Drivers point of view. |

^ So how has the RK6AL been for you so far, pdude? Worth the high price tag? I heard that it makes shifting easier and smoother, especially in 1-2...is this true? Does it dampen the grindy notchiness of the gearbox at all?

No grinding, on notching, didn't really think about it until you mentioned it, which would happen from time to time before. You really don't have to use much force to change gears, it's really nice, and the feel in your palm is 'solid'. But, don't expect to change gears with one finger on top of the ball either. It's 'easier' to change gears, it's shorter, faster I guess, smoother, but you still feel the shifter going in/out of gear channels (or whatever they are called). Price was steep (compared to others), but I would not take this thing off or trade it for anything less. First, it does feel really great, short and heavy, and second, I think it looks pretty cool. I look at it this way, I put $130 into this mod, but I enjoy it every time I drive and change gears. I don't think you'd find too many ppl that would regret putting this in their car. |

I like the fact it's wrapped in leather so that driving in the winter the knob (the ones that are machined steel/aluminum, etc) isn't super cold and in the sumer crazy hot.

Thanks for the response pdude...sounds like the knob to have! Btw, how tall is the knob from it's base, I understand it also has two different heights?
