Chrysler Hard Drve
I just noticed this article:
http://carbuying.autoblog.com/2006/0...entertainment/ An in car hard drive sounds great - download your ipod to the car, then no need to mess about with connectors / integration etc.... And if the nav is on the hard drive - then no need to worry about DVD's. Since a 30gig ipod is only a couple of hundred quid this ought to be cheaper than supplying a DVD player / CD player. Where is BMW on this ? |

The only problem with this setup is that it would require synchronization everytime songs were added to the MP3 player. That would be a pain in the bum. I think that current integration is a great solution, as long as the user interface is adequately designed.
The hard drive as medium for the Navi sounds kinda cool though.

why would you need to synchronize songs every time you add/delete from the hard drive? it should just allow you to select which songs to add (from flash drive/cd) or to delete from the internal hard drive?

I wouldn't want some spinning platter based HDD built into my car. If it were solid state, like the new Sony UX UMPC that has the equivalent of a 30gb compact flash card as the system's hard drive space, that would be a different story. Also, wifi to sych with your PC while it's parked in the garage would be cool too.
Spinning disk hdds are not well suited to a bouncing car for it's entire life, IMO. |

Solid state would be ideal - I agree.
In terms of synchronisation - you could use an ipod or ultimately, I guess we will see wireless synchronisation with the car linked to our home wireless networks. |
