Went to the track! Help me assess my time slip!

So I finally took my car to the 1/4 dragway this weekend with my girlfriend. Anyways, I need your inputs guys. Tell me what I'm doing wrong and what needs to be improved. I raced a SRT-4 with some drag tires by the way.

First things first:

-2009 BMW 335i Coupe 6 speed manual - Bone stock
-DSC and DTC were left at default mode. untouched.
-2000RPM launch and sliding the clutch out
-stock michelin PS2 runflats... dunno how many PSI, but factory PSI I suppose.
- no tire warm up. didn't mis-shift.
-no wheel spin at anytime
-first time 1/4 mile runner with no experience, and n00b launching.

Here's the issue though. I did not get any "DSC" warning flickering in 1st gear. But the moment after I entered 2nd gear, the DSC warning exclamation light kept flashing for about 2 seconds. Did the DSC slow me down ? If so, how much faster could I have gained ?!?!

should I have ran with DSC and DTC both off ??? but according to the youtube videos, people are spinning 1st and 2nd gear ... wouldn't I lose time?

Anyways, please critique ! I ran a 13.988 in the 1/4. I'm satisifed with this number based on the conditions but wondered how I can get closer to 13.4.

I am not a seasoned drag racer, I only wanted to see if this car performed "within spec" of the magazine's... 1/4 mile in 13.4 sec in C&D and Edmunds article.

You can search the forum, I know most people turn them completely off and practice on their launch either with a 6mt or power brake with auto. It also helps with you had drag radials. Magazine driver's are pros because that's what they do, so they usually gets the best time out of a stock vehicle.

Try DTC, it allows a little more spinning without bogging down. 13.9 isn't bad for a 6MT though, they're not easy to launch with the open diff and high torque.
