How much to pay for painting my bumper

I recently bought a 2006 330i from the San Francisco BMW dealership (CPO). It has been two months and I absolutely love my car. It is a Metallic Saphire Black with terra interior. It has the premium package and looks absolutely gorgeous. This is my first bmw and I am also totally taken back by the amazing driving experience I have been having for the last couple of months.

Now here is my problem. I recently noticed that the paint on rear bumber splintered and as soon as I washed it, a good bit of it peeled out. Now it is a much bigger patch about 4 inches and looks splintered all around. Since, my car is still under the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty, I took it to the dealership. They found that the original owner has a minor accident on the bumber and had painted over it without properly prepping the bumper.

They are giving me a quote of 250, saying that the original cost is 550, but since they sold the car to me and it has only been 2 months, they will incur the other 300 dollars. Does 250 sound reasonable?. How much would it cost, if i were to take it to a body shop to fix this?

Please any advice is appreciated. I am new to this and want to know what is the best way to deal with the bumper.

That sounds like a drop close to me. Pitch high and drop the price and say, FINE. I'll do you a favor and i'll give you a deal. $300 sounds reasonable to paint a bumper regardless. Ignore what they say it normally costs because in the end that doesn't matter its just a mental ploy. If they do a good job, $250 is likely a decent deal either way. I don't know much about getting paint done however.

Yep, just take the deal. $250 is a good price, you'll be lucky to find that same price somewhere else and it's the dealer so they'll back it up and use the usual methods they have for bodyshop fixes.

I'd take the deal for $250 and have dealer do it.

Thanks for all the reply. I have scheduled a drop off for next Monday. They will even provide me a replacement vehicle for the two days it will take them to fix the bumper.

Can't beat this deal for $250. Just make sure they paint it right this time.

Perspective

Here's my two cents:

My bumper was scraped (while parked after a detail no less) and I received two quotes from reputable body shops if I was to go through my insurance.

Both came in @ $750.

I then approached my dealer, who quoted $700.

Finally, I went to the BMW authorized shop used by the dealer, who quoted me $400 cash for the bumper repair & paint, plus a small touch up on the front quarter panel.

To answer your question, $250 is about a low a price as you are going to get. To the point, just to take the bumper off and put it back on again is $100 by anyone other than someone who offers to repair your car in a driveway or on the street in my neck of the woods.

If they sold it to you that way I don't think you should have to pay a dime. $550 sounds about right to repaint the bumper, but it won't cost the dealer that much since it's their shop. They're probably charging you what it will cost them to do the work.

$250 is a very good deal. I would do it, and make sure the dealership will warranty the paint work in case it ever spiderwebs again.

Seriously, it was bought from the dealer.... I wouldn't be paying a dime. They should have disclosed that to me when I bought the car.
