Hey guys,

I just got my 2006 325i about 5 months ago with 60K miles. I just had a service light come on and the shop told me its for brake pads. I've got 69K miles on it now. How long do brake pads last and whats the typical price to replace them ?

there is no typical "brake pad lasting" period, it all depends on how you drive and brake. they could last 5k miles, they could last 10k miles. im sure when you bought it, it didnt have a fresh set of pads and rotors. just a thought.

You will need to replace pads & rotors.
At a BMW dealer I would guesstimate $800 parts + 400 labor minimum.
It is a potential DIY if you are a reasonable mechanic. You can get better parts -- e.g., DBA 4000 rotors, Cool Carbon brake pads, Goodridge stainless steel lines for a nice upgrade.

a single rotor will cost you about 200$ at a local shop. dealer price is insane. but yes, the longevity of your brake pads depends on how you drive, how hard you brake, etc...

If you are planning on doing the work yourself check out rockauto.com I used them all the time when I had my mazda6. If you google for a coupon code there is usually a 10% one out there
