Aluminum trim problem in 335 - spots

I picked up my 335 yesterday,...finally , and as i was driving it home i noticed white spots, kinda like hard water spots on my aluminum trim where the dealership had sprayed some kinda cleaner in the car when they were preping it. Well i figured they would wipe off. WRONG! I tried 3 different cleaners on them and they will not go away.

Anybody have any suggestions? I called dealership back yesterday when I got home and told them about it and they said they would get back with me.

thanks in advance,
lance

It depends on what they sprayed on it. What cleaners did you try? I would personally try a little alcohol/water mix (rubbing alcohol), if that didn't do it I would try a very light metal cleaner, if that didn't do it I would tell them it's time to install new trim at their cost.

This happened to me when i washed my car. I think the spots are attached through a electric charge, b/c i used Mr. Cleans water filter spray that takes out all the spots, so the only thing i can think of would be that the aluminum attracks ions in water. And the weirder thing is that some of the spots would wipe away with my hands, and some wouldnt.

It is a strange, but nothing to serious.

That's why Aluminum trim sucks compared to the Wood trim....it may look nice & sporty, but its very susceptible to damage like scratches, etc., and also things like what you've experienced.

My dealer told me the same as well. Sort of funny, but you may not want to clean it with a harsh cleaner. You may actually want to try to use an exterior wax or polish to make it shine a little. It may hide the spots.

If my new car has spots on it like that, I will be trying a alcohol/pepsi mix...

The resin over the wood veneer is way more susceptible to scratching, the issue is it tends to show it less since it has a less uniform appearance.

Okay its not just showing up on the aluminum. It's also showing up on the metal ring around the starter push button, the top part of the dash, the radio and even a few spots on the mirror(glass part). It's like they sprayed some kinda cleaner and let it sit too long and dry. U can really see it when the sun shines on it.

I've tried alcohol and 3m adhesive remover and nothing happened.
