Redline D4 ATF
Hey guys,
I went to Famoso Raceway and beat the sh!t out of my car. I did a lot of runs and then I couldn't get it into second gear. When the tranny was hot, I kept grinding into second. I did this about 4 times so I'm chainging my trans fluid from the royal purple syncromax to the redline D4 ATF. If anyone has any experience with this then I'd really like to hear your inputs. Thanks.

I don't think so.
Go to the Redline website and the only ATF listed for a manual trans is D4 ATF.

Thanks for posting that. I'm going to compare the differences and viscosities and determine what would best suit my driving.

I just looked at the differences and it looks like the D6 is a thinner version of the D4 so I think i made the right decision of goin with the D4 for now.
If i have issues then maybe I'll try the D6 later. The best thing about changing the fluid in the manual is that it's really so easy and inexpensive. 20 bucks for fluid and can be done in about 30 minutes in the front of my house.

OK guys, I really thought that the RP felt good but this Redline kicks the crap out of it IMO.
The nothiness is gone. The shifts are like butter, no matter what temp it is. Now remember that I live in SoCal so it won't be as cold as other parts but the first shift of the morning feels like the last. I'm really glad I didn't go with the D6 because I believe that the D6 is thinner and is mainly for fuel economy.

I used Red Line tranny fluid in my last car, and will never use anything else. Glad to hear it feels better, Mr. 5!

The Motul 600 or 660 would be some of the best, I should have some in stock.

Mr. 5
Have you used the water wetter before? I've heard it's anti-corrosion additive is not compatible with BMW coolant and leaves some brown residue floating around in the cooling system. People recommend to use the water wetter for Diesels as it does not contain the anti-corrosion additive. That is if you want to mix it with the BMW coolant of course. If you want to run plain water, I think the regular water wetter should work ok. |
