The question is so open ended, as this based on condition of car, mileage, options, etc.

Stop being an arse and provide some more details. Options? Mileage? Add-ons? Don't harass him when you're being the nit.

I just went to have my car appraised at the dealer for trade in. I have a 2007 E90 335, the orginal sticker was 49K, the car has 22K miles. They offered me 24K for the trade in.

If you own the car, look up the trade in values on kbb and edmunds. That will give you a ballpark. If you lease, it should be what your contract states is the residual value.
As others have said, way to many variables to give a meaningful answer. If you are going to purchase another car from the dealer, then the price of that car will factor into the trade in as well (e.g. if you want a lower price, they will give you less for your trade to make up for it, and if you pay sticker, they give you much more for your trade). I always recommend you agree to a price for a new car without a trade, then, after that you can talk about your trade.

I wouldn't use KBB or Edmunds to get a trade in value. From my recent expierence, dealers have told me that they do not use these values and their values are usually less. I would say subtract 2 to 3 thousand from KBB or Edmunds and that will be pretty close to what a dealer will give you.
