Macht Schnell or AR downpipes?

So I decided to get something else for the car to drop in when spring comes around.

My question is... The new Macht Schnell 3" thermal coated downpipes or some AR 3" catless downpipes?

What do you guys suggest? Any info from experience are welcome.

Given the choice NOW ....... I would go with whichever I could afford. They are essentially the exact same design with the 3" piping & 2.5" at the flange.

The only 2 "really" competing against each other. Then again, I love my AR Design pipes!!

i would go with ar design, they have been around for a while and have a great reputation, definitely perfect fitment, plus he is on the forum for any tech advice and warranty issues, just more of a "personal" relationship with the vendor

If the price points are the same then this should be a no-brainer for ya .............. go with the proven product. There's obviously a following here.

AR Design:
Andrew ........... your products speak for themselves bro!

The Macht Schnell units are making awesome power, with the big HP cars turning over to the MS brand. Here's the last dyno from our 135 project:

Here is a list of modifications to the vehicle:

2008 BMW 135i 06/08 build

GIAC Stg. 2 beta calibration
Macht Schnell 3” Catless Downpipes
Macht Schnell Dual Cone intake kit
Macht Schnell Intake Scoops
Snow Performance S2 Boost Cooler
Evolution Racewerks Competition Intercooler
Forge Motorsport Adjustable Diverter Valves

Here's a couple of other threads to reference from:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=324292

You can't go wrong with either choice, both are very high quality builds.

I'd like the two vendors put the pipes up for a dyno day. What do you say? Is there anyone who is afraid? We should do, With a tune, then without. Two cars, one tuned, one stockish. You don't want it to be completely stock because you want to amplify the ability of the DP's to provide power. Thats a heck of a lot of installing and uninstalling, but because of adaptation I don't think it would be realistic to do in one day with one car otherwise. The cost and effort of installing and uninstalling, "Such great quality and fitting" pipes shouldn't be very much anyway... Right?

EDIT: I mean honestly. The cost of lending a pipe for the day, selling it full price to the owner of the vehicle, and giving them a free install and a free dyno couldn't possibly be that expensive when you look at the overall cost of advertising. This is what I do all day. I sell advertising blocks over the phone ranging around 10-30k. For a company so well known like MS and a company more than reputable on these forums like AR, dropping the money to do this to prove their product is superior would be and should be done in a heartbeat given the opporotunity. And in most cases it would turn out to be very similar in results and every one's questions will be answered and the speculation about who is better wouldn't exist.

it also came down to ar and ms for me..at this time ms was fairly new and AR seemed to be established and reputable..but MS looks and feels the same..and is $100 cheaper but u gotta pay shipping and probably want to get the o2 fix for about 60 bucks...

the AR's i bought came with free shipping and a free bms o2 fix so it comes out to be about the same price in the end...if i could have gotten MS pipes with free shipping and o2 fix i probably would have considered that route instead..

Both pipes seem similar in performance, but my vote is for ar design as I know the fitment and quality is top notch and with these downpipes and the tight spaces under our cars FITMENT is everything!

That said I think the differences in performance between the two would be within the error of the dyno so not much benefit would be had IMO

yeah you've pretty much said what I said without the challenge

I think it just comes down to fitment... I realize we have EAS here supporting, but MS themselves aren't here like ar design is. Another thing to consider.

AR downpipes are great, but if I would pick DPs now, I would go with Macht Schnell because of 1. thermal coating 2. dyno proven gains and 3. I really like the design of MS shorter pipe at the turbo end. But you cannot go wrong with either.

Macht Schnell, fantastic quality and numbers. All their products are great.

Put that $100 towards install.
