Activating RTTI?

Just picked up my 335i coupe w/ nav this evening, and I noticed that the Traffic Info page always says "Currently, no reception" despite the fact that I'm in downtown Chicago. Dealer claims that the RTTI needs to be activated, but there's no clue in the documentation or the system on how to do that. Anyone have experience with this?

Call your dealer in the morning and if they still don't know, either you or your SA should call BMWUSA Cust. Service to find out, and let us know (since I'm getting the Navi system as well.)

I actually did start to use Assist to try and figure it out, but figured I'd just wait until morning and ask the SA. I have to go back in for a steering wheel lock warning message anyway ... I'll let everyone know what I find out. I have a sinking feeling the car is an early build that doesn't have the necessary hardware, but the software still shows the feature.

The Navi system delay was due to integrating the RTTI feature, so I doubt BMW would release your car and ship it to the US without a properly working system (including the integrated RTTI feature in which a small receiver gets the wireless signals from local Clear Channel radio stations sending traffic info to your car, and integrates those signals with your Navi system).

My RTTI worked without any sort of activation. I just go over to the Traffic Info page and can select stuff. It also lets me select which source I'd like to use to retrieve traffic info... do you see a similar section? By defualt mine was on some station and it said "auto" next to it, as if it's a defualt setting. It also gives me the option to find traffic info for surrounding interstates and my Navi did suggest a detour once due to traffic.

I have same problem as you!
My dealer knows zip about this feature so far.

We have it & we paid extra for it when we bought the Nav.
In fact mine is set in iDrive to "Auto" setting.
From my research looks like I don't get station that broadcast in my area.
Seems there is only 44 areas accross the US that broadcast @ this time?

I'm upstate NY & seems only broadcast on FM stations in NY City Area?
When I go to New Jersey 10/30 I will know better then.

If u find out anything before I do? please do post info for us!

Guys with the problem, please check which version of the Navigation DVD you have

RTTI will ONLY work with 2007.1 onwards

Some E92 have apparently been delivered with the older DVD's, which the dealer should replace

Also check out http://www.realtimetraffic.net/ to see if the system works in your area

My RTTI was never needed any activation. I was ready and working from the moment I drove off the car.

Lo and behold, I got stuck with a 2006.2. Going to try to get a 2007.1 out of the dealer this afternoon, and I'm guessing that'll fix it right up.

Fleet, how is it that you are not on the BMW payroll? If only the SA's knew half as much as you do about their cars!

Well, no surprise - my SA had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, claimed that the DVD must not be coming out until 2007 if it's called "2007.1", and told me he'd be happy to order it for me for $150. I'm about ready to sneak into one of the nav-equipped cars they've gotten in in the past week and take the DVD.

Don´t deal with the SA on this, deal with the CA since he should have provided this to you on delivery. Big mistake to deal with the SA here.

In your case, I think the problem is that you're simply not in a covered area, in which case the message "Currently, no reception" makes sense. Check www.realtimetraffic.net for coverage.

I wonder how many people are going to post it's not working when they are not in a market with coverage.
