Install: Ipod Integration / Valentine V1, problems with 700p and loaner
I just picked my car up from the dealership. Took it in originally to have the new ipod adapter installed, have a 'service engine' light checked out and get the software updated (hoping to correct a caller id problem with my treo 700p). While I was in there dropping the car off, my sales rep came over to check the car out. I had done a few things to it since taking delivery (kerscher front bumper, blacklines, euro spec headlights, ACS Type IV wheels, etc). We got talking about speeding and he brought up an option to get a V1 installed - I never would have thought the dealership would hard wire a V1 for me...didnt really want to mess with it myself so never got one. Well he happend to have a kit on hand so I welcomed the offer to have it installed while we ordered a V1 via overnight for installation the next day.
So after getting it all checked in I was given the key to my loaner car... a green 325XI. I wasnt real impressed with the 325 to be honest. I dont really know what it was about it, whether it was the lack of ZSP, the XI option, or the fact that I desired my 330I....but I just felt a little dissapointed in the 325....cant really pin it (hadnt ever driven the 325 before so it was a shock). But I only had to deal with it for a day, and now i can say now that its good to be back in the seat of my 330...and the V1 is amazing. And I love the ipod integration..... a little slow on the idrive knob for searching but otherwise amazing to have. Nothing beats being able to pause without reaching for the pod whenever a call comes in over bluetooth or when muting the stereo. I was a little dissapointed to see that the software update had no effect on correcting my caller ID issue with my Treo 700p, but dont know what else to do to remedy it. All in all, the best part of it all was talking with people at the dealership that appreciated the mods... something that I have found the average person doesnt really notice unless they KNOW what to look for. glad I added the mods!!

What type of caller ID problem are you having with your Treo 700? I have a Treo 650 and I never noticed a problem with the caller ID, but I have had the BMW software updated in the past to correct a problem with Bluetooth connecting. I also got a Treo firmware update which was supposed to make the phone more compatible with the handsfree system of most cars.
I haven't done ANY mods to my car, but I have had people at the dealer ask of my car was lowered. I think its because most of the people in this area tend to buy xi version 3 series cars. I have driven a 330xi and a 325i with sport package as loaners and I actually preferred the 325i (even though I drive a 330i). They were both steptronic, but the slight drop in power was made up for with the tighter suspension. The 330xi felt much higher off the ground than I was used to. After a week with the xi, I realized that the handling limits of the non-sport package xi were quite high. But the car doesn't inspire as much confidence as the sport package on the non-xi 3 series. Either way, isn't it great when you get your OWN car back

I had the Treo 650 and had no problems whatsoever with it. But after I upgraded to the Treo 700p the caller Id function wasnt perfect. Basically the only problem is when a call is coming in, it shows the caller id as the previous call received. So whoever called me, on the call prior, is the one who shows on the display.

One thing to note, the V710 is on BMW's approved list, the 700W or 700P hasn't been added yet but the Treo 650 from Sprint is on the list. |
