Change looks?
Here is how my car currently looks:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Just for reference, my car sits a lot lower now than it did in these pics] Now, I've put in a lot of time and money into the car with a central design in mind, essentially 'black inside, silver lining'. The black wheels with the polished lip, the tinted windows with the silver trim, etc etc. I really like how the car looks, and people practically break their neck looking at it when it goes down the road. But, and there is always a but, I'm growing tired of one thing. The polished aluminum on the wheels is often stained. I live in a fairly rainy climate, and there are a lot of trees around here, so something from the road is always being thrown on to the lip and marking it. And I'm not just talking about something I could wash off easily with a hose, there are constantly permanent marks appearing. There are nearly always stains on the lips, and I'm getting very tired of polishing them myself, or paying somebody to do so. I've arrived at a point in which I would like to make a change to the car. I've essentially narrowed what that change would be down to a few ideas: 1. Have the lip on the wheels I currently own painted black and then clear coated several times, and then change to shadowlines, which would both be part of going for a more "murdered" look. If I ever curbed the wheels, however, I would not be a happy camper as the whole thing would have to be repainted. 2. Change the wheels out for something simpler to maintain, possibly a matte black 19" wheel as I've been desiring better handling and acceleration as well. Something lighter than these Iforged 20"s would be nice, but wouldn't get nearly as much attention. If I did this I would also be changing to shadowlines and getting black exhaust tips. 3. This is where you tell me what you would do in this situation, choose option 1, 2, or make up your own for 3. Also keep in mind that, regardless, the V35 vented hood will be the next mod to the car!

I like it just the way it is, very clean. but I think shadowline trim might give it a slightly more stealthy look without losing the overall class of the car

i'm not a fan of this Iforged wheels and i think 20" is too big, so i would go with option 2.
flat black wheels with a silver time attacked strip would be nice. |

I would black out the chrome on the car so option 1 or 2 works. I don't mind the current style wheel so you could always refinish those to save a bit. Car looks hot, great work!

Thanks for all the input, it really does help.
Could anyone suggest some nice 19" black wheels that might go well with my car if I decide to black it all out? I was thinking maybe some miro m6 reps in gloss or matte black, but the more ideas the better. *edit* I feel sometimes like the 20"s are robbing the car of its true potential, the ride is pretty rough and acceleration seems to be affected. Also, going around corners sometimes at low speeds the car feels like it has quite a bit of body roll, not sure if that is because of the wheels or not.

Some shadowline trim and get rid of those tacky tinted tails.

Sorry, I like 'em, the tails stay. Thanks for the input though. Nevertheless, the question was more about wheels than anything.

If I swtich from 20" to 19" I'm gonna do a drop, but the streets around here are definitely not drop-friendly.
As I noted above, the car sits noticeably lower now than it did in those photos. I'm not sure why exactly to be honest, I haven't dropped it but for some reason the front and rear suspension have just lowered, to the point where I'm rubbing on my rear tires with passengers in the back. And the window trim all depends on the wheels, I'm not likely to change one and leave the other alone.

I think 20s are perfect for the E92 M3s, but too big for non-M E92s.
Option 2...then get 19'' DPE SL-5s like this: ![]() ![]() And you have to lower the car...it just doesn't work without doing so.

First, sweet ride King. Nice attention to detail. I especially love the B&W Roundel.
Second, Option 2. I generally think you'll be happier with 19 inchers. But don't just go black on black unless you just want less hassle as you describe. Otherwise, been there, done that. I think your sliver lining concept is the reason you turn heads. |
