Bumper Washer Cap Froze

Hi Guys,

Having not driven for two days in this freezing weather i have found that my front bumpe headlamp washer caps have froze and stretched the springs so now they do not go back in the inserts properly and stick out.

Has anyone exerienced this? Do you know of a way to fix stretched springs?

I think the cap comes with the springs as one piece but i may be wrong....

I will welcome all of your inputs,

Thanks

The whole shebang could still be frozen up, causing them to fail to fully retract?

In my case, the washers haven't been used at all since before the freeze. The cold has just pushed the whole thing out, as if it had been in operation and didn't go back in after use. I wonder if it's frozen water in the system expanding and forcing the unit out.

One of mine did that (stuck up and didn't retract), but once fully thawed went back to normal.

This

Its the force of the water that pushes them out in normal operation. I reckon it's the expanding ice which has forced them out. They won't go back in until the ice melts inside the tubes.

If you have a good concentration of anti freeze-wash fluid in your washer bottle this shouldnt happen, when I do get the change to fill mine up I put half a litre of the stuff in then water...its got to -8 here a few nights and they have never frozen...this should sort it and stop it happening again!

Seems this may be a common problem on many cars. My last car (Citroen C4) had this fault both winters I had the car, they covered it under warranty mind, so I wasn't too bothered.

Annoying though!

Both my front headlight washers on my 05 330 are now missing completely and nowhere to be found. I now have two lovely holes on my bumper!
