Steptronic trans will not downshift in Manual

I have a 2006 325i. When I switch it into SM and try to downshift it won't. It WILL shift up but never down regardless of current gear. Any ideas?

Try doing at low speed. Computer will limit downshift based on speed but you should be able to downshift from any gear. if not, could just be a bad connection on the shift controller by your shift boot.

Yes it won't downshift at any speed when I tell it to. What kind of connection is there? Is it something I can replace or repair? and how much?

Sounds like a bad connection. Not sure exactly how the wires are connected to the shift knob or what the mechanism is for switching gears with it.

Maybe TSB B 24 13 07?

"Various complaints associated with inoperative transmission controls."

Example:
Transmission Connector X8500, pin 14 is slightly pushed back causing a poor connection.

If you use DS or M modes often, wires attached to the shifter stress and break. See this thread for a video that explains what to look for and how to fix it:
