Power UP - what to do

well on hearing that the new 320D will be upped to 184bhp has got me I'm getting bored with the 177 and need more power.

Ideal plan would be Evolve but having a LCI means their switch box will not work and need something easy to switch over to standard.

That leaves me with tuning boxes as know no other firms with switch boxes capability.

Found these

http://www.diesel-performance.co.uk/...ails.php?id=10 << offers boost and fuel alternation instead of just fuel.

http://www.chipexpress.com/diesel-tu...d-kit-132.html << seem to offer biggest gains. no boost control

http://www.tunit.com/ <<decent gains no boost control

Has anyone had any feedback on these or can recomend other firms that have cracked ODBC coding on the new LCI models

Don't think it's switchable though which is a shame, as they would be my first choice.

oh sorry, I didn't notice you needed it to be switchable.

It's a pain but maybe hold out for evolve to get a switch working? It's just a matter of time i'd say.

teh 7 bhp is just the bmw increase the DTUK take it to 215 and around 440nM same for evolve,

Spoken to Imran few times and its going to take time "rummours" might be few months but nothing confirmed and its a case its a long wait,

also the DTUK does make a good case for it as adapting both boost and fuel should make for cleaner map than just working on fuel hence less chance of too much lean burn and oversooting

If you had driven a re-mapped 320D you would not want to wait for a switchable box.

Whats wrong with just getting a re-map without the switch??

thats fair enough about going to an indie and stuff , car is on a lease so needs to easily go back to stock when goes back, plus it came with free servicing so why would I want to go to the indie and pay,

YEs its a a$£se but at same time its just a variable in the decision,
Its a tough one both will return similar gains DTUK and evolve, other bonus is when I get my next car with DTUK I can move it over plus with evolve thats only possible with the switch.

Right now indications are the cost of them getting the kit to do odbc is very high and market is pushing their focus another way, if enough LCI owners requested they would probably move dev sooner but righ tnow theres not enough demand to release LCI switch sooner hence the long wait.

It all leaves me in an "$%$ of a dileman what to do, nearly as bad as deciding on the next phone

184 bhp - Geeks Save Us

Well HO HO HO - looks like Chritsmas has come early for BMW this year.
Let me explain- THe new 320d (184bhp) comes equipted with the new Tri-Core Infineon locked processors that operate on 1024 bit technology- the kind of stuff banks use to code your precious money from peeping toms.

So far, and in all forums and technical info i have been able to muste,r it seems that programmers/chip tuning specialist have not been able to crack it and problably wont for a very very long time.THe best option for a chip/tune is for the ECU to be removed and boot loaded.Yep u read write- no OBD switchable programs for this super chip - no sir re bob-
Anyway it seems that VWAG and other manufacturers have caught on to this to eliminate and anihilate the after market chip tuners.(dont they like some competition)

Now were theres are chip, you will most certainly find a super GEEK trying to nerd it.Almost all in the know say it will take 80years and some hundred computers to crack this 1024 RSA code.

Well guess what- some geeks-excuse me SAVIOURS (Valeria Bertacco, Todd Austin and Andrea Pellegrini) managed to CRACK it in 100hours -

http://techie-buzz.com/tech-news/102...a-cracked.html

Now all that awaits is for chip tuners to stand in line with hat in hand and await the hand out like oliver twist-"please sir ...."

I ,like my fallen brethren who have purchased the 184bhp am awaiting the plethora of options that will be available in say 6months time for chipping this car.BTW i gave in my 177bhp - BLUEFIN (221BHP/480nm) in the hope of being able to chip the 184bhp - guess the joke was on me - haha

Anyway thats my long and short on the story-Hope it helps

Ahem - I do agree that the car can be reprogrammed but they have not "cracked" it as yet.
What they have to do is remove the ECU from the car and boot load the ECU. The method is actually very simular to BDM programing that had to be done on MED9 ECU's and EDC16 ECU's prior to 'easier by comparison' 'serial port flashing that was deveolped for programing these ECU types.

http://www.evc.de/images/bdm/whole.jpg
Boot loading (as per above) is the only guaranteed solution for first time programing at the moment

The whole point being that there is no hand held/portable device(bluefin,e-motion etc) for switching between maps for the new Tri-core processors.
