What FAST beater for 15k
Well like the title saids im thinking to upgrade my 335 to a used M6 or get a new M3 sedan but since i put 50+k miles on my car per year for my work so
i need a REALIABLE daily beater that i can put alot of miles on it and FAST. I really hate slow cars. I tried getting a camry as a daily beater and i couldnt handle not being able to switch lanes and etc due to no power. Got rid of it within 3weeks cuz i kept driving my 335. Looking for at least mid to low 12's? As daily car and reliable. Budget is $10~$20k. Want to get a car tahts like $5k~$10k max and rest for mods. Curremtly looking at E36 and going FI B5 S4 and going turbo Evo? Sti? Wrx non sti? Would the cars above fit my needs and budget? I 6'2 so i cant get no rx-7 or a s2k. booo

For a daily you do want warranty. Go with a Mazdaspeed3,GTI,Civic Si...throw some bolt ons call it a day
I don't see the point of buying a car and spend 10K in mods...you want a fast reliable trouble free car. These S4, F/I M3, Supra etc are going to be too costly to repair and are not that reliable. If you blow something on these cars you will need to go rent a car etc...Bad idea

Long-Term Edmund's blog bought a C5 Z06:
"It cost us $20,000 and had about 40,000 miles on the odometer. It has a 405-horsepower 5.7-liter LS6 V8." Read how it goes here: http://blogs.insideline.com/roadtest...-corvette-z06/ |

I mean no disrespect but he asked for a 12 second car.
You can't suggest a 14 second car and then request to end the thread lol. Sure he can blow his whole mod budget (6-8k) for a good turbo kit for a G35.. But then you better hope he goes for a PERFECT g35 coupe that needs no maintenance since he wont even have money for safety items even (brakes, tires, etc), let alone other performance upgrades (clutch, suspension, brakes, any cosmetics, exhaust bits). And if his budget is around $25,000, you WILL be able to find a car that goes under 13 second in the quarter if you can sacrifice a bit in the 'style' department if this is truly a 'beater'. Im talking an easily tuneable turbo car or a V8 with potential (possibly Supercharged). So things like a Mustang, C5 Z06, 300zx-TT, Supra (w/ 2JZ), Skyline, 240sx, STi, EVO are cars to consider. My friend has a 240sx he DD's the whole summer that runs around 12.75 in the 1/4. (He is quite mechanically inclined though). So it CAN be done on this budget. Again I mean no disrespect. This is my 2 cents, and I don't mean for any animosity ![]() Cheers. Last edited by CATCH_M3; 01-31-2010 at 03:09 PM.. |

If you put 50k miles/year, then you must do alot of highway driving. With that in mind, if you cruise at 75-80mph, you will spend a considerable amount of gas $$ if you choose to go with a 2L/2.5L evo or Sti. With $20k, you can find a pretty good one capable of doing 12's without losing any long term reliability.
Like some suggested, I would consider c5 zo6 which will give you decent highway mileage, instantenous torque, and LS reliability.

Exactly what I meant. Why buy a DD that can potentially have more issues than your week end car?
You just want to turn the key go to work in your suit and tie. I remember in my younger days I used to drive my modded civic to work and I often had to pull on the side of the work to adjust something(throttle cable, something loose, loose cf hood etc)in my suit and tie...my colleague which was way older than me told me listen kid...been there(he had modded Trans/Am, Stang, 80s Civic in his youth) done that. Kid drive something cheap, reliable and stock that doesn't draw attention from the bosses to work keep your civic at home that way you don't dont walk into the office with a dirty suit. I went to the dealer later that day and bought a brand new Mazda Protege(did put some wheels, suspension). Within 6 months I sold the problematic civic. If you do decide to mod your DD, just throw some bolt ons, like an exhaust, intake, wheels, suspension. Otherwise if youre set on buying these problem prone machines just DD your M6 and keep a stage 3 S4, F/I M3 as the week end warrior. Trust me on that one. I had an A4 that was blowing coilpacks all the time what a PITA....it was under warranty too.

did you miss the part about his budget? I highly doubt you can get a gt500 in that price range
