Bedding in New Brakes - Advice

Just a quick one - have put some brand new OEM front discs and PF fast road pads all round on my car - and wanted to know what sort of bedding in process people recommend to ensure they work as efficiently as possible etc??

Slight issue ive had is that when they were fitted on Friday they discovered the front drivers side caliper was sticking - so i had to order a new/refurbed one. BUT that isnt being fitted until tomorrow morning - so ive been driving around with new brakes and a sticking caliper for last few days. Ive tried my best to not use it much and keep my speeds down (no comments about sat night please Carlos!!)

But just wanted some bedding in tips for tomorrow when i get new caliper on and brakes will be working properly.

Is it just a matter of doing some high speed heavy braking or is it more technical than that?? And is all this bedding in done to stop potential "squealing" happening???

Any advice appreciated.

Lightbulb

Drive to a remote area. Use light to medium deceleration with varying starting speeds and perform at least 15 brake applications of 3-second duration. Leave at least 1/4 mile between each brake application.

The purpose of this procedure is to gradually increase the temperature in the components without inducing thermal shock, and to mate the brake pad and disc friction surfaces.

After the repeated stops, drive for several miles with little or no braking in order to adequately cool the components.

After the above process is completed, the system is ready for normal use .

The brakes should be smooth, with no vibrations, judder, etc.

Go out late at night when traffic is light and head to a dual carriageway (the A13 around Romford is excellent for this)

1) from 30mph, apply brakes firmly and smoothly to decelerate down to 10mph, come off the brakes and then..

2) accelerate gently to 40mph, then apply brakes firmly and smoothly down to 10mph again, off the brakes and accelerate gently to 50mph

3) apply brakes a bit harder this time and slow rapidly to 10mph, then accelerate to 60mph

4) do three sharp braking cycles from 60mph to 10mph, then drive without braking for a good five or six miles to let the pads and discs cool off

Your discs and pads will then be bedded in and all glazing removed. The pads will also be 'keyed' to the discs so any imperfection in the disc surface will be adapted to.

Steve,
The key is not allow the pads and discs to get too hot whilst bedding them in. So no hard long presses on the brakes if you can avoid it.
