Went to the 1/4 mile track lastnight! Procede V4 Stage 4
2007 BMW 335I 6MT
-265's General Exclaim UHP in the rear.. -Temperature outside was about 65 F -Shifting around 6000-6200k rpm -Slipping the clutch from 3200k rpm launch -approx. 2 gallons of 93 octane and 4 gallons of 110 leaded. -clutch toast after last run Best Time/Trap 1.987 60ft ET 12.369 @ 116.897mph A bad launch 2.289 60ft ET 12.889 @ 115.772 Very bad launch, lol 2.484 60ft ET 13.610 @ 111.092 I only got four runs in, and the car felt like it was getting faster after every run...either it was adapting to the race gas or I started driving better... The last run I made though the clutch was toast! You could smell it for about 30 min. Either from slipping the clutch too much or it just can't take the increase in power over time. I only have 23,000 miles on the factory clutch though, so for it to be dying this soon is strange. I could feel it slipping in all the runs when I slammed the 3-4 shift. I think that if I had another 4-5 runs with a clutch that was grabbing it would have started trapping 118mph+ Last edited by Malaka1; 02-05-2010 at 05:45 PM.. |

just curious, since I'm not a 1/4 mile guy, but isn't the "sweet spot" right around 6500-6600rpm for shifting? All my fastest datalogged times have been when shifting up there. 6000 seems pretty low, especially when you're running race gas with no boost taper up towards redline. Did you do any datalogs?

Good work.. Just an FYI, there is no adapting necessary with v4 when running race gas. In your 3 runs, your traps went from 112mph to 116mph to 117mph. That's all from better driving and nothing else With some more practice, you have a 118-119run in there. Probably even with your clutch slipping.
And the 6000-6200rpm shifting suggestion was just for 3rd to 4th. You definitely want to run 1st and 2nd gear out to 6500rpm. Or else you'll be down some torque at the upshift. Shiv PS. Email me your datalog file and I can host/post them for you. |

I really think the slipping clutch ruined any chance of great ET's or trap speeds.. I mean there was a huge delay between shifts... I would slam 4th gear wait, wait then grab and wait for boost to come back up and then go. Those 3-4 gear changes usually take .3 seconds with a 6mt but I would guess that with the slipping clutch around .6 seconds or more...I can check this later with the datalog.

Also buy my MT setup with my 16lb kosei wheels and you will run a 11.7ish if i would decide to sell them that is (probably wont). But you seriously need some better tires for drag racing.

malaka1, thanks for the honest result, you could have easily skewed the results so that you never had a bad run. and drag racing is fun but not really where the procede outshines the other tunes. on a road course or auto-x, the partial throttle control and logic is what bests the competitor's product.
as for the clutch, I can suggest ASR's. They have 5 stages to choose from with and without a lightweight fly, the 4th and 5th stage are for drag racing only, I dont know how hardcore of a fan you are.

I'm glad you had fun. Sorry about your clutch. Those times can definitely be better with your supporting mods.

eh, i'd blame it more on the clutch+shift points. When more people start getting to the track we'll see much faster times, fear not.
