Please post your experiences with GIAC

I am seriously considering the GIAC stage 1 or 2 software for my 2007 335i 6MT and would love to hear peoples first hand impressions with the tune. Especially in concern to drivability, power gains, and smoothness compared to stock. I have a JB+ that I am not a huge fan of simply because of the light surges of power I can feel under WOT.

As a side note, a friend of mine had a GIAC flash on his 2004 Porsche GT3 and wasnt a huge fan of it......

Thanks!

I have Stage 2 EU version and its amazing. Never had an issue, super smooth and very powerfull. I am 110% happy with it.
There will be lots of nice runs/comparaison with the most known piggies as soon as we are getting some traction here in sweden.

Can we keep the thread about GIAC? I'm sure the OP would research/ask about V4/JB3 if he wanted to know about them.

GIAC Stage 2 ran 11.x multiple times at the same event in a manual car...I am strongly considering it.

By comparison, a v4 car running those mods, with solid clutch, will run trap speeds well over 120mph. It's pretty silly to use drag race results as a benchmark for the merits of a tune. What matters is how a tune drives on the street (pump gas, partial throttle, etc,)

Shiv
yeah exactly and that matters to me , thats why i chose GIAC over a piggy.
We will see how the tunes run against each other pretty soon dont worry.

GIAC S1 is an awesome start for stock to mildly modified vehicles - you won't find a bad word said about it on the forums. However, there will be a certain criteria that needs to be met in order to run S2 when released, it's not meant for everyone.

What most people will report from the piggy vs GIAC will be the power delivery, the GIAC is very linear and smooth throughout the entire power range. However, I would like to keep this from turning into a heated debate.

Most importantly, what modifications have already already performed and what is planned in the near future for your 335?

The only mod I have right now is the UUC/Corsa exhaust (rear mufflers). I had an AFE intake for a short while and was less than impressed with it, though maybe the intake becomes more beneficial with a tune? I would love to think that I will do downpipes, diverter valves, midpipe, etc....But if I am being honest with myself, it probably wont happen. However, I could see myself getting into suspension and maybe brake work for the occasional track days I attend.

I havent had my JB+ in my car for months now and am really appreciating the smoothness of the stock power, though would like to get back to having more power while maintaining the stock linearity of the power delivery....

why not just try the flash out and see how you like it, most shops offer a 30 day trial period.....

agreed regarding staying on topic...GIAC experiences is what the OP is asking for....not jb3 or v4....

But to the OP, please do some research on your own, and whichever you choose, is much better than stock.
They are the better team but got owned?

Than Stage 1 would be perfect for you try it out you wont regret your choice. There are a few reviews on the forum , search on GIAC stage 1.

I have stage 1 and I think it's perfect. Certainly as smooth as OEM (maybe even a tad smoother) and it's got enough power such that I have no desire for stage 2 and all the upgrades needed to support it. The car feels totally stock wrt driveability - just with quite a bit more power.

IMO untill I could flash my car at home, flash tunes are a huge hassle and risk, especially with the reliability problems these cars face.

With the flash you won't get any user adjustables, no code clearing, and you won't get new firmware/map updates every so often. But I have not heard anything bad about GIAC.

im also considering the giac stage2, just waiting for more information to come out and for the 2.0 final to be realeased so I can compare them both. I do like the idea of the flash working with the ECU and not "fighting" it. It seems to be alot safer than piggybacks(atleast in theory)

Correct but:
1. There is no need for code clearing since NO tuner codes will ever be triggered. If for personal info you want to check your car a BT cable can be purchased. I personally think the BT cable is very usefull to log and see generally how your car is doing.

2. There is no need of a flash update since its already perfect as it is. NO limps induced by the GIAC flash, constant power in all conditions.

3. User adjustability is also a feature that some people like and some dont. Maps can be changed in case of GIAC with a flashloader so that the owner can change between Stock, Street, Race maps.

All tunes have pros and cons and different aspect. Some nice reading and evaluating is needed to pick the right tune.

Hmmm...My experience?
How about 11.80 in the 1/4 that is also smooth enough to drive my family around?

Is the flashloader out and available in the US? It is important for me to be able to switch between stock and the tune map through almost the end of this year where my factory warranty runs out.....
