Oil change using dipstick oil extractor
Hi Guys,
Anyone have any experience of using one of these: http://www.marine-super-store.com/po...edpartno=07181 to extract the oil for an oil change? Looks like a pretty good bit of kit. |

I know people who think their great things to use and if you're doing between service interval oil changes a good idea, as long as you change the filter at the same time.
Many new BMW's don't have a dipstick though |

What I do is take the car a nice hardish drive to get things moving and the engine oil hot then park it up on the level, leave for 5 mins and then extract. When I had my V6 vectras and things I did this also, I pulled the plug out for the sump and nothing came out, not one drop of oil. Worth while getting in my opinion.

I used one a few times when i lived in the US. It really is a nice tool and simple to use, you can have a cup of coffee and watch the oil drain. Nice clean job and no chance of stripping the drain plug. This is the one i used as it had a 6.5 litre capacity so you get all the oil in one hit. http://www.ap-tech.co.uk/products/details/128.html

It's no different to the drain method as it just sucks the oil from the sump pan. Provided you get the sucker hose in the right place!
It doesn't 'suck' the oil out of the hidden recesses and oilways of the engine, it's just like emptying your bath with a drinking straw rather than taking the plug out.... After 15 mins hot with the drain plug out there'll be bugger all left. Admittedly the main benefit is you don't have to get under the car! Quote:
