blinking clown nose

i know there is a DIY to rig this clown nose to work, but yesterday ksfrogman were installing aphall's alarm at my house and his clown nose worked right away after installing the kit. the alarm came with a hood sensor, motion sensor and a siren. it is not program by the dealer yet, but the clown nose works. we didnt try to findout which sensor casue the clown nose to blink but its better than rigging someting together to make the clown nose work. this alarm was so easy to install. thanks to the DIY on the forum. thought you guys would like to know.

Long, that's the way it went on my alarm install. Clown nose works right away but the alarm is not actually activated. Once the dealer codes the car for the alarm the options for audible lock/unlock will show up in the setup menus.

I'm amazed by the amount of owners that don't know which are standard equipments and which are not, didn't you guys read the product brochure/spec sheet when you bought it??

+1,000000000000000000 or even better yet why didnt the CA tell you. I tell everyone so if they want an alarm they will have it installed before pickup.

^ Does the light blink? If so, you have an alarm and no doubt have paid for it. If it doesn't blink, then the light does nothing.

Just out of curiosity, about what percentage of your customers opt for the alarm?

Yes, The current US 3-series do not have alarms as standard equipment. However, there has not been any instances of stolen E90/91/92 reported in here or in bimmerfest, AFAIK. So I the alarm is not necessary.

That being said, my wife's E90 has the alarm installed. We think the blinking clown nose may deter petty thieves who break windows for stufff inside our car. You want to have a blinking clown nose especially if you park your car next to cars that have blinking indicators. You don't want your car to look the least secure on street.

long time reader, first time poster...

For those of you who've had the dealer install the alarm, how much did you pay? My 335 coupe arrives in December and I'm debating about having the dealer install it, or doing it myself.

thanks!

I've gotten a couple of different quotes from dealers -- $400 to $700 installed. I've heard some ppl pay up words of a grand tho.

I say just have your dealer's service dept. "turn on" the blinking alarm light on the rear-view mirror without installing a very costly alarm (unless actually having an alarm is really important to you). I told my CA that's what I wanted them to do, and he said "no problem." It will be done before I take delivery.

ok, we are missing some important info here and it is causing mass chaos. Is aphall's car an e90 or e92? What software program version does he have? Maybe bmw program the nose to blink in the newst software release...I remember ///Matt mentioned something about new software and alarm.

hm, unless they changed the programming on 335, I find that very interesting that you can do that. Just for info, what you have requested from your CA cannot be done on the e90. We just have to wait and see what will be the case with 335 or 2007 model 3 series.

I optioned the Alarm, because here it makes the car conform to a certified configuration that the Insurers will support.

In other words, no certified system, no insurance against theft.

I've seen posts on here where other ppl have said they've had their dealer do this...although there's no alarm per say, the alarm light can be activated to blink when the doors are closed and locked. I guess I'll find out for sure next week when I take delivery on my 335i Coupe.

I know for the sedan (2006 model to be exact), it was not possible just to program the nose to blink without the alarm. I hope to hear back from you after your delivery for a confirmation on the coupe.
