Should I buy 335xi with HPFP history prob

Hi

I would like to know what you guys think. I'm on the verge of buying a 335xi AT (I know i know, you guys pref MT). It's a 07 335xi that I'm getting at a great price. The only prob is that a look at the history report shows that it had HPFP prob replaced 2x already. The last time it was replaced was approx march 08. Should I assume that I got a good one at this point or should I just move on? Does a history of HPFP isuue indicate that the issue is likely to reoccur again?

I'm considering just geting a 328 to avoid the probs. The m3 is out of my range. Just so you know. The deal I'm getting on the bare bone 07 335xi is approx the same as the loaded 328.

Thanks.

Depends if you don't mind not having the car for a day or two depending on the dealership. If you understand that it most likely will fail again and you are aware then go for it, but it also seems that you want more options in the car so you have to figure out what you want more. The faster 335 or the slower but more tech fun car.

I really don't mind not having the car for even several days since I am not a daily commuter. More concerned with the hassel of having it break down on me in the middle of a trip. The 335 is the one my heart wants but the 328 is the one my brain tells me makes sense.

I would do it. I bought a 2007 335 which had its HPFP replaced once, and it hasn't had any problems since I have been the owner. The pump is on a 120k warranty, so I don't worry about that aspect of my car. You won't regret it.

I think HPFP issues exist on just about all the x35i cars...

there is the BMW extended warranty for the hpfp and the standard 50k maint/warranty.

Tyler

certainly seems that way from these forums. My concern is if the past instances are indicative of future occurrances. I would hate to be one of those guys dropping the dealership every month.

It depends on the level of risk you want to accept. I understand that it is under warranty, and most don't mind going in to get them replaced. My concern would be how and when it fails. I remember one member posting about the HPFP failing on the interstate and barely making it to the shoulder without getting hit. I cannot in good conscious take a chance with mine or my loved ones lives. If you get a 328i I definately recommend a MT, night and day with the 328i AT.

I don't think it will just die on you without a warning sign of some sort. I've had a car die out completely on me while I was on the freeway during rush hour. As long as the car is rolling it shouldn't be a big deal getting to the shoulder.

Anyone ever wonder if you keep your car with at least a quarter of a tank all the time that the HPFP will least likely to malfunction?

Still very split. I'm starting to lean towards a 328 though sin e I'm not really a aggresive driver. That's not to say I don't enjoy all those hp. Not to mention I also like the tweaks in the hood and lights for the 09 model.

^ based on that i would recommend the 328... 335 is for power and those who will utilize it... i mean if you are just a casual driver a loaded 328 (make sure it has sport) could be worth it actually... navi, comfort access, sport, prem, cold weather, active head lights, logic 7 ?? all those VS. bare 335... thats a tough personal choice...

i take 335 any day.. but i like the power on the highway...

I'd take the 335 also. But as stated, IF you don't care about the extra HP/ and lower end TQ, then just go witht he 328. It's still a great car IMO. But IF I went with a 328, I'd try to get at least a 6MT.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not really suprised by the love you guys have over the 335. The feel behind the wheel is incredible. But as stated earlier, I'm not a super aggressive driver and NYC highways really won't do that Car justice anyway. So I decided to stick with the 328. Having all that power under the hood sitting in traffic would seriously annoy me.

For the reccord, this was an 07 335xi black on black w/ approx 45k miles being sold for 23k. Very sweet deal. I'd be glad to point somebody in the right direction.
