Exterior Window Trim E92

Hi does anyone know how easy or hard it is to change the exterior window trim?

All help will be welcome.

For most ordinary mortals, it's bloody difficult - and hugely expensive.

Ok i've got the black shadowline trim now... all i need to do it fit it!

The main strip look easy as i believe its just clip joints which need to be put in place and press it on.

My questions now is... do i have to remove the from door cards in order to replace the trim?

I think the back onces just pull out.

Please adivse me if i am wrong as i do not want this ending in a very expensive trip to the stealer!

I enquired about it and was reliably informed that it needs specialist tooling to get the trim off without marking the bodywork.

Would be a good idea to speak to Kevin Bird ( www.birdsauto.com ) and get a quote. Might be cheaper than repairing any damage you might do doing it yourself.

Thanks Will.

I will give birdsauto a call tomorrow.

Seriously the main one which goes acrss looks simple enough and so goes the rear quarters.

Its just the front door trims, i just needed some advise on if the door cards and mirrors need to be off before the trim can be changed.

Anyone done this before??

Guys, done it my self and it's not worth paying £280 for.... took about 1 1/2 hours to get it finished.

I don't suppose anyone has any photo's? I want to remove the min trim which goes around the top of the door so I can get to the paint properly with the Porter to polish out some marks.

If there is no photo's a bit more information i.e step by step would help?

Cheers

Sorry put i've sold the car since otherwise photo's would have been added.

Ok i'll try and give you some instructions.

The top trim which curves around the front and rear window is clipped in, this just needs a little force to be clipped out, please be careful otherwise you will end up bending the trim. I used my hands to do this.

The front window trimps are the easiest as you can use a flat screwdiver and lift it gently, try and do this a little at a time and evenly across the trim.

The rears are where this get's tricky, they actually slide off towards the door side. You need to be extra careful that you do not bend these or the clips which are holding them in place as it will affect the new trims you are putting on.

I hope that helps... if you were in london i would be happy to help with installation.
