Soot build up on exhaust tip

I've changed out my exhaust tips, and I noticed engine soot build up on the right inside and none on the left. There is NO oilly feel with the build-up. What should make of this?

Your right side exhuast is always flowing. Your left pipe has a valve/door that opens and closes during various conditions. I noticed my right tip had more carbon buildup then my left. I think it's normal.

Any ideas on the best way to clean this? I want my pipes polished up and ready for the summer.

Thanks guys for the input. The exhaust is OEM, and I got a little concerned if something was not right with the engine (from the original source 3 cylinders). I glad to hear it's normal condition.

I may look more into the golf tee idea.

My tips are stainless steel. so its easy to clean or wipe down. I guess you would regular wipe the tips down on a regular basis if you want them to look fresh all the time. Keep a rag handy in the trunk, I do.

000 steel wool followed by a good metal polish and soft rag and you'll be looking good.
