JB+ Install Reviews and Tips

I closed the GB thread so I thought I would post the reviews and install tips from the participants here.

Someone needs to get a close up shot of the TMAP sensor as the manual pics are not ideal.

A couple handy tips for installation....

If you wish to adjust the JB+ default setting, dont turn the blue dial. You need a small flathead to insert into the arrow groove and then dial in your setting. I cranked it up to 60-65% which is ~2:00 on the dial.

Use a penny duct taped to a string (so you dont drop .01) to slide into the clip for easiest removal. The USB cable idea doesnt seem to have enough width to slip the clip off.

It's hard to describe the motion and feel of pulling on the release clip, but leaning over the drivers side fender, reach in with your right arm and feel for the black corrugated plastic wire sleeve, and work your way upwards an inch or so up the three exposed wires, then comes the male housing, the clip and then the female housing.

Slide your penny up in the same order starting from the male housing...the clip is on top and at an angle to your right slightly. If you slide it up enough it should stay in place. Dont use the penny as a lever to pry the clip off; it should stay parallel to the housing.

It helps to step back and see if the penny is flush in the clip. If it is, go back in and pull the 3 wires down and away slightly. They will pop right out. Step back again with your penny and note the orientation of the now loose male housing.

Congrats. The hard part is done!

Grab your JB+ and plug in its male housing to the car's female housing you just released, it should lock in place. Then with one hand, feel and connect the car's male into your JB+'s female housing.

You are done!

Now for my first few runs....

My June Dynolicious baseline 0-60 runs were in the range of 5-5.6. No I am not a pro driver and have a 6MT. FWIW my car was dynod at that time at AMS at 276hp at the wheels.

I did three runs last night and the worst was 5.1....the best was 4.27 but it was mostly downwhill.
Pretty impressive so far.

After attempting to lift the clip with everything from a small flathead to a little pick like tool, I used the USB cable. It definately took some patience but I got up and the harness out. As stated early, this is the hardest part of the whole installation.

After that, it was a breeze, just plug in the JB+ to the appropriate connections close the hood and you are done.

Before installing my JB+, I consulted a tech who suggested I run it at around 75%. I dialed the PSI to around 3 o'clock. I am currently still running those settings.

It was 12am when I took my car out for the test drive. To be honest, the immediate was subtle. It wasn't until the next day that I started to notice. Yesterday seemed even better. The car remains smooth, yet incredibly fast. I took my boss out for a drive and he noted that he believes the car is as fast as his porsche carerra. This is the only mod I currently have on my car. I will say, my car now seems to need a suspension upgrade

I can only imagine what the other JBs could do to this car but I dont think I should have possession of one of those
All I can say is thank you to Mike for a great group buy. Also, a big thanks to the peeps from my other post regarding my investigation into tuning and their recommendations.

JB+ is a great tune for those who don't want to dig around in their ecus... one day though..eventually.. almost all graduate to the JB3 like I did!!!

Toward the end of my JB+ Career I had it at around 100% with no codes or anything.. and yes, it does respond well to higher octanes.. I stuck 1/2 a tank of Sunoco 100 octane in there once and it ripped!

Awesome tune!!!

I intalled this Wed night at 60-65% and am ready to crank it up some more. Yeh I know it probably hasnt even adapted fully in <40 miles, but why not.

I plan to check for codes beforehand and do not expect any. I have a 7/07 production car and I believe I saw in the BT that my ECU was manuf just before that as well.

My 2 questions based on turning it up to 100%...
1. I run 93 octane all the time, so I should be okay right?
2. What is this solenoid bypass all about and is it necessary?
3. At >75%, and with a never updated ECU, I should theoretically not throw any tuner manip codes right?

1) Yup
2) Solenoid bypass is highly recommended for 100%, also gives that low end a little more kick!
3) above 75% you run the risk of throwing a tuner code... best get a BT Scanner if you plan on running it @ 100% from now on...

Thank you. I took that picture with my iPhone and used Adobe Photoshop to brighten it up.

Thanks. And, yes. It definitely didn't work out that nicely on the first shot. Seeing the clip made it so much easier and I figured it would help for others as well.. It might not be a bad idea to use it in the actual documentation. All I want is $100,000,000.00 and I'll be happy..

I just got mine and so far I have not been able to get it. I almost thought about taking the airbox out. That also looks like a pita. I tried for about 45 mins yesterday and gave up. I have very little mechanical ability .

Forget all the long install tips and all that. Locate the TMAP sensor. Jam a penny into the clip, tug. Thats it. Forget the penny, it will fall out eventually.

Seriously, it's a lot easier than you're thinking. Take JayKay's advice.. I'm lucky I can fill my tank with gas and I installed it myself. The first time took me about 45 minutes because I didn't know what to look for and couldn't see anything. Once I got that picture up above, I could feel around and know what the sensor looked like by feeling it. Now I can install and uninstall the piece in a few minutes.

The airbox is cake and would make this install so much easier. The only hard thing about the air box are the 3 little rubber wire holders on the back right that you need to slide off.

+1 if it takes you longer than 20-30 minutes to locate the clip then take the airbox off and it will stare you right in the face.

I will add that my car continues to morph into a bit of beast. It seems to almost snarl, but in the best way! I actually slid a bit on the onramp I drive everyday So in addition to my previous advice I should add to be careful out there and remember to adjust your driving as well.

Unfortunetly, I have come down with the bug. It started with the JB+ and is now progressing to an AFE DCI. Prognosis looks bad indeed....

Here's an idea. Anybody have a way to post up a video of the exact location of the TMAP? I have an idea of where it is and I could get my point and shoot but I don't have a way to post it. hehehe

+1

I'm waiting until I know exactly what I'm doing before I install. Also waiting for a BT tool.
