G35 agressive approach
I know this has been and will be further discussed, but just a quick look at the 335 closest competitor tells me that Infiniti will have the edge over the Bimmer because of HUGE savings:
Similarly (I would say almost identically) equipped G35, 6SP Sport is $9,120 less expensive (MSRP) than the 335 (both sedans). G35 = $35,300; 335i (Sedan) = $44,420. Quick look at the specs shows that the G35 also comes with the aluminum pedals, short throw stick shift (important!), convenience package, NO RFTs. Of course, the 335 comes with the badge, twin turbos (could be negative thing in a long run), I'd expect more solid feel, for me it looks better (but that is subjective), better stock stereo. From reading the reviews, I can see that the handling is very close, still Bimmer has the slight edge. We don't know the performance numbers of the new G, but I'd expect them to be close to the 335 numbers as they always have been. So, how do you justify spending extra $9k for the 335? |

I ran into a G35 sedan last night. The guy was driving like a maniac during rush hour in heavy traffic. He wanted to blow me away at a light, but I just stuck on his bumper for about a mile until I backed off because, well, driving 100+ in heavy traffic just ain't that smart, and the adult in me took over, and because cops are everywhere on the road we were driving.
In any event, I was suprised by the speed of the G35, but never felt like the 335 was outmatched, although admittedly, I backed off, and he pulled away.

I did the exact same comparison less than a year ago, and i made the wrong choice...
I had a g35 for 6 months, it sucked ass... I hated that car in so many ways. Sounded like a tin can in the rain, seats were very uncomfortable, interior felt and looked like a nissan, and the sound system sucked... not to mention i had transmission problems, and electronic issues (one of my headlights kept going out!). I had to take a partial hit just to get rid of it! everything about my 335 is better and tottally worth it! It feels like a solid german car, it drives better, its very comfortable, logic7 audio is the best sound system i have ever had, and no issues so far! the car rocks! |

The G35 styling doesnt do it for me. And with all the lease deals and whatnot it's not that much of a difference. However, if it was 07 g35 vs 330 then the G would be the clear victor imo.

The G35 is an awesome car in my opinion. I had an 05 6MT Coupe and I absolutely loved it. Good power, great looks, great reliability, and excellent re-sale. You certainly can't go wrong with buying a G. However, it lacks a certain undefinable quality. BMW has an ability to engineer in a feel that's not present in most cars. Maybe it's purely psychological, but there is a reason that a BMW wins almost every comparo ever done.

I bought a e92 as well. I really wanted the 08 G35 coupe but just couldn't wait a year.
Anyone who hates japanese looking cars. Have you looked at the back/rear of the E92 lately? |

Fast car. It was a bit surprised how quick it was. That being said, he could not pull away from me until I backed off. If anything, I took it easy because I was not expecting the G35 to be as quick as it is. Needless to say it is quick, but I kept up with it without going past 6K rpms.

I test drove both and IMHO the G35 felt like a hog compared to the BMW. Very heavy and slow compared to the whip I got from the 335i sedan and coupe (tested them both).
Did not care for the G35 interior either - cheaper looking leather and so many gizmos on the dash. I prefer the cleaner look and ergonomic appeal of the Idrive system. That said, my opinions are obviuosly just that - mine. If you weigh the benfits and costs, and prefer to go for a G - have fun with it! |

You get what you pay for. I can't stand g35's. They look and feel cheap to me. I would probably get one over a 325 though since being overtaken by minivans isn't my thing.
edit: forgot to mention that i think the g35 sedan is horrid looking. hopefully the new coupe looks better. |

335 = easy mod ability, better handling, "gold standard" benchmark status, more nimble size, more power despite the about = ratings
2007+ G35 = better interior, more interior room (competes with the 5 series in terms of interior room), better quality by all objective ratings, available LSD, better stock wheels imho, no brake dust For me, the exhaust and chip to 400 HP is the deciding factor, but if not I'd be very tempted to buy a G35 Sport if I was trying to hit a price point. signed, a current infiniti, past and future BMW owner |

I've owned two G35's, a coupe and a sedan; I've also driven the new '07 a few times. As I've mentioned on the G35 boards, these cars drive too differently to compare based on price and features alone. Drive them both and if you don't have a clear preference I would be surprised. I chose the 335i over the '07G35 because as good a value as the G is (and it really is), it is, imo, built to cater to an entirely different driver/lifestyle.
If you want to get technical/talk features - the G35 is packed with technology for a way better price, no question. In terms of drivetrain, the engine they're using is just a re-hashed VQ, which is a 12 year old engine. No direct injection, relatively poor gas mileage, relies on displacement and high revs... it doesn't reach it's peak until over 5000rpm; frankly I think it's at the end of it's lifecycle. I wouldn't be surprised if the '08 G35 coupe has a 3.7l version, then they finally ditch it. Don't get me wrong, the VQ and all it's iterations have been great, but at this point it's just long in the tooth. In terms of suspension, the '07G35 isn't heavier than the 335i, but it is bigger and you feel it. It feels almost like a 5-series. Cheers. One last thing to think about is re-sale/residual. I would not be at all surprised if 335i monthly lease prices are only a few dollars higher than '07G35s due to their better residual value and better money factor. |

As I have gotten older I have very much gotten in touch with my own mortality (and have respect for the lives of others). Not to mention the fact that my Fiance would kill me if I killed myself racing an Infinity. In any event, the car looked like just another piece of suped up jap plastic with dark tinted windows and big tires. Not my cup of tea.

First off, please know that I came from driving a modded and loaded '04 Infiniti G35 Sedan and a loaded '03 Infiniti FX35. I posted part of this response in another '07 G35 thread a while back... The '07 G35 is much improved over the previous model...they improved the ext. styling (except for that chrome lip on the trunk...what's that about? ![]() With that said, I just couldn't deal with the G35's tranny (which apparently wasn't upgraded at all)...it still "bangs" into gear using MM shifting (paddles or gear shifter) and it STILL has the old MM upshift delay (~1/2 sec.). The 335i on the other hand has the "quickest and the slickest" Auto/MM tranny I've ever experienced. It's soooo smooth and the shifts are lightning fast...I love that! In addition, the 335i handles like a big go-cart on rails; the '07 G35 although improved in its handling and driving feel, just doesn't compare with the 335i. Also, the G35's brakes used to be very good; on the '07 G35, Infiniti changed them to be too spongy. ![]() ![]() IMHO, the '07 G35 is still the best bang for your buck in this car category...you get a lot of high-tech gagets and the performance and styling very close! However, when you compare apples to apples, the question of whether the '07 BMW 335i is worth $7k-$9k more than the '07 Infiniti G35 Sedan is subjective. In my case, the BMW 335i Coupe is about $9k more than a loaded '07 G35 Sedan, and well worth, imho! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

porsche cayman S costs 10-15 grand more than an M coupe
much like the 3 is more than a G35,is350...... people are willing to pay more because there are tangible differences in performance/style/resale. if the G35 was as good of a car, why wouldn't they price it as such? Nissan's out to make money too right? |

the g35coupe is a nice car for what it is...but if you are getting it to make power, boy you chose the wrong car. The car doesn't respond well to bolt on mods at all. And to turbo it, you need to have the engine rebuilt so it can support the boost.
The car feels much more slower and less superior than a 335i in every aspect. I have several friends who cannot wait to get rid of their g35's because of the minor problems, ie stock cd player keeps going out and rattling stereo. |

As much as I love BMW and everything associated with it, I still can't wait to see the new production G Coupe. It looks so sleek and sexy. I'm sure with all of the complaints that Nissan received on the 1st Gen G35, they will spruce up their 2nd Gen, addressing issues and problems.

The problem with the G35 is the fact that it turns to cheap plastic, fast!! After about 30,000 miles, they start to rattle, the leather feels like plastic and the plastic inside seems to wear really fast. Now, if you drive a BMW that is like a 1999 with 115,000 miles on it, it feels better than a 30,000 mile infiniti. The problem is with these japanese cars are everyone is a lot of people go into them because they save $3000, but it the long run they are unhappy and they are all coming back to BMW. I know this because I hear my clients complain everyday about their japanese cars.
