JB3, stock and Helix intercooler

I'm looking to buy a Helix intercooler.

I currently have a STOCK 335i with just a JB3 2.0

Im currently on map 5 with 93 octane gas.

I would like to know if I can run map 7 with JUST the INTERCOOLER as another mod and how much power im looking to make at wheel.

yeah, you can run map 7, and a lot of members here would recommend a fmic first, i did not go that route, and now wish i did. all that power is no good in the summer heat when your stock ic starts losing efficiency, heatsoaking. get a fmic or methanol inj. first.

I like the FMIC or DP upgrade equally. They are both really necessary upgrades. I hate to say it, but both are poorly designed stock items especially the IC.

I wouldn't. This opinion is based on the results that Hotrod posted here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=370248.

This shows that DPs contributed very little to overall speed of the car (maybe 0.1 sec and 1 mph in 1/4mile). Granted, this does not illustrate the improve throttle response that DP are known to give.

I'd go with meth or IC to cool the charge and run higher tunes.

Well said..

The FMIC doesn't really make power for you, it just ensures the power you have is consistent and always there for you, so its not really a mod which allows you to map up, IMO.

Mike
so you don't recommend me run map 7 with just a FMIC?

Not really.. Many people do it but if you really want maximum power then DPs are what you need along with high octane

what other supporting mods should be used with map 7 besides DP's? because by the looks of it, DP's are hard to hide and would be a pain to swap back and forth

+1
Upgraded FMIC hass less pressure loss than stock and enables more aggressive tune. On summer FMIC makes more power than DPs.

i agree

fmic first

downpipes do make more power, but its a different ballgame when putting them on your car as opposed to a fmic

for max power, dp's should be used but if your not trying to squeeze every bit of power out of your car, i think fmic is the way to go

no hassles, no problems, easy install (compared to dp) no O2 sensors to worry about, or emissions to deal with or bad smell or cels

just my opinion

If you that worried, get Catted DP's... But be aware that if you have the new ISTAP software that came out last month, you will get Cat inefficiency codes...

Im on map 7 as well. Runs great. I just upgraded from 1.22 to 2.0 yesterday. I used to run map 6 on the old version all the time for about 1 year and now running 7 on the 2.0.
So far so good and i dont have DP or fmic but looking into it. (fmic)
ALWAYS ON 93 Octane

Our main drag is winter tires, since they really destroy traction as compared to summer tires.
The good part about driving winter tires for 4-5 months, is that it´s great to put on summer tires and rims.
Icy, well then you cruise and anything more involved would only piss you off. If not practicing power slides of course!!!
