Question WTF can I doooo?? Engine steam fix?

Ok, I know our cars run hot, but I need to know a simple fix to get rid of this damn smoke/steam that comes out of my hood near my windshield.. It's so f*kn annoying it makes my car look like it's overheating. I sometimes catch people looking at it and it makes me feel like they're thinkin my car is messed up lol. I was thinkin maybe a CAI and maybe some scoops may help? What do u guys suggest or what has anyone done to resolve this?

Thanks guys (and any girls that may help)..

Whoa. My car runs hot but never have I seen white steam come out of my windshield. If anything maybe heat vapors but those are clear.

in 09 the 335's stopped coming with the underhood insulated pad, the purpose of this was to keep the hood metal from heating up and resulting in steam when moisture/rain hits it, i see you have a 2010, so you shouldn't have that heat insluation on the underside of your hood, you should just see paint. if thats the case, get the insulation from tisher from a 07 or 08 and put that on

Did this always happen?
I had this happen on my 93 VR4 TT. It turned out to be a blown turbo.

Kev I think ur right. It's not all the time and I think I've only noticed it when it's raining. I haven't seen it in a while but recently noticed it again last night while it was raining. Will the insulation make my car run hotter being it's holding in more hot air??

I don't think it's my turbo. Performance hasn't changed one bit and if I'm correct, a blown turbo makes noises..?

Thanks for the info guys

thats almost definitely what it is, the insulation wont make your car any hotter, at least nothing that anyone would notice, the 07-08 cars didnt have any overheating issues. i had an integra that was missing that insulator and every time it rained, the hood would be covered in steam and it looked like the radiator blew up lol

Is the steam coming out between the hood and windshield, or just off the top of the hood?

This is normal. When it rains, I can dry clean my suit and dress shirts on the hood.

Is it steam or smoke? There's a big difference!

If it's smoke, it could be your turbos, dp gaskets or even the blow-by tube leaking on the engine perhaps?

Garage List
OP--Did you determine the cause of the steam? I have the same problem on rainy days on my 135i.

I seafoamed my intake and had crazy smoke coming out of the tail pipe and also under the hood on the passenger side. There is an exhaust smell from the same area. The car is at the dealer right now for diagnosis. The dealer thought the issue was caused by loose clamps on the BMW Performance exhaust, so they removed the clamps and welded the exhaust.

Problem not solved, so I took the car back to the dealer and showed them what a seafoam smoke screen looks like, behind the car and unfortunately under the hood.

Maybe I'll know where the leak is from tomorrow.
