I just got my 335i , How LONG IS break in period?

Hey, i went to the dealer to order mine, and i got lucky as fuck... someone couldnt wait for thiers and had purchased another one from another dealer, and the one they ordered just got there when i went it and it had all the features i want except tan instead of black interior... anyway, 4 days alter, i leased it ...

Anyway, i've been driving it everywhere and i put around 350 miles on it and i was wondering how long the break in period is... the dealer said 1200 , but they also told me i dont have to do oil change after break in... which didnt mae since to me... if the motor needs to be broken in, wouldnt i need to come in right after... they told me if it was an M , then yes, but since its not i have to wait for 15,000 miles ...

Also, there is a stock non-amg CLS55 that wants to race me... do i have a chance???

don't be an alarmist RiX

you'll be fine if you wait the full year or 15-20K for the service
although it won't hurt to get it done more often.

YOU MUST HAVE this oil change at 1200-1500 miles.

As per my knowledge ,there is no a "non-AMG" CLS55. If you are talking about CLS500 it depends of how good driver you really are as the performances of both cars are very similar.

If we are talking about the CLS63 AMG version ...DONT even think about it

i usually say the break in for my cars is about 500-1000 miles, i cannot wait any longer than that

and if it really is a CLS55, then it is an AMG. but if you are sure it isnt then it must be a CLS500

I considered the '07 CLS550 in my search. According to most published test figures, you should beat it but it would be close. According to my seat-of-the-pants o'meter, you would win for sure. If it's a CLS500 then it won't be close, you'll walk away.

so, where is the best place for the oil change and how much is it? I would assume BMW right? I'm coming really close to my 1200 mark

Thats how i broke in my last engine (3SGTE) ... it works fine but you gotta do it from the first time the engine ever starts.... turn it on, gun it , let off the gas but dont clutch... go up to 5k then down to 2k then up to 6k then down to 2k then up to 7k and down to 2k.... do that for like 20 minutes, then get back , do an oil change and then do it some for for 200-300 miles...first day i got it, i took it straight to orlando 275 miles... just doing that the whole way up... i waisted soo much gas... got there did an oil change and then brought it back... but i couldnt do it this time .... so i've been keeping it under 5k for now... i got it monday, today is wednesday and i already have 450 miles on it... i am gonna give it another 150 miles , then iam just gonna start driving it faster... and once i hit 1200, ill do the oil change... i think a soft break in can ruin a motor... i did a soft break in on my R1 and it never felt right...

I think it's all in the head for those that think soft break in is bad and hard break in is the way to go. Sometimes when we read things, we tend to believe it and freak out. Anyway, regarding the oil change after break in, what are people's views for a E92 328xi?

No, My R1 was defenetly way slower than most because i did such a soft break in...

Anyway, its been 5 days since i got the car and i already have 850 miles on it... I am calling out that cls 500... he wants to run for $100... easy money

Quick question thou... DTC? on , limited ,or off for drag racing?

Make sure to heat up your tires a bit before hand... and turn off DTC (hold for 5 secs).

Suddenly, I'm really considering doing a hard break-in in 3 weeks. Gonna have to drive to another parking lot though. Will me doing that be too late for the Hard-break in or should I just suck it up and do the soft break-in?

If you plan on owning your car for a long time, whats wrong with a proper break in??? The guy who tested the hard break in has been doing so with bike engines, which are completely different than car engines.

Im going to have the tendency to break the car in according to how BMW specifies, and not some Joe Schmo who 'has been breaking in over 300 engines' and has a silly little website that looks like a 5 yer old made it.

I would suggest the oil change after break in though...
