Buckled MV3

Hey,

I've just noticed that my front left wheel has a slight buckle - I can feel it as I run my finger around the edge (its near a single spoke of the alloy). Can this be repaired?

Also does anyone know what warrenty is given for a cosmetic repair from a stealer? I had one done in december but the paint appears to be degrading. The dealer fobbed me off saying wheel work had not warrenty. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks

Might be easier to just buy another - problem with having no spare is that the car is off the road whilst work is being done. A new wheel means you have a spare for the future and minimal off-road time.

I had a bad dent on the inside rim of one of my alloys (18") caused by a pothole. I was told during the BMW Vehicle Check service that this would cause MOT failure. I couldn't feel any vibration when driving the car. I claimed and received £300 off the council, waited until MOT time (it did fail) and spent £35 having the wheel straightened.

The damage to my wheel was more of a flat on the inside rim rather than a sharp angular dent - it was certainly very noticeable though.

AWR of Bury sorted the problem out and the MOT retest was successful.

Tell us more about how you successfully claimed from the council!

In June 09, whilst driving along a country road not far from home I felt a tremendous shudder and realised I had driven the NSF wheel into a pothole. The car was due the "vehicle check" service a few days later so I took it in to Bowkers Blackburn and they reported that the NSF wheel was damaged - he showed me the damage and confirmed this was due to a pot hole and would fail MOT. I thanked the tech for this information but turned down his other offer of replacing all non RFT tyres with RFTs and providing a KDS.

I returned to the site armed with camera and took photos. It was a nasty sharp edged pothole adjacent to a grid/drain near the kerb. I didn't remove the wheel to take photos as I had the report from Bowkers.

I rang the council and asked to speak to the claims department and told them what had happened. They advised me to complete the form they would send me and for me to enclose any evidence. I completed the straightforward form enclosing printouts of photos, report from Vehicle Check and copies of 2 quotations for replacing the wheel. I could have gone the whole hog and included things like suspension recalibration etc but decided not to.

I received an acknowledgement from the council's insurers (Zurich) a few days later. A couple of months later I received a lettter from Zurich confirming that they had accepted liability on behalf of the council and were prepared to offer me £300 in full and final recompense (my claim was £310 or £316 - can't recall). I phoned them to accept and received a cheque in the post 2 days later.

Councils are responsible for maintaining the highway to a reasonable standard. This highway in my view had not been maintained to a reasonable standard. I was prepared to take it to small claims but didn't need to in the end.
