Hi, i had a search but couldnt find the answers to the questions that i had, so started a new thread i hope thats ok

I recently bought a 2008 3 series coupe from an independant garage, so the car is still under warrenty till march 2011

1) do i need to notify BMW about the change of ownership and to transfer the warrenty over?

2) Does the car come with any other assistance such as breakdown cover within the warrenty period?

I cant seem to find the details in the handbook that came with the car. Anything else think of anything i should know?

When I bought my 335d I went to the local dealer to check over the vehicle and that alone informed them that I now owned the car and all the info was given to BMW. This cost me a half hour of labour but I feel it was money well spent. Hope this helps a little

There's usually a tear-out bit in the warranty documents that you fill in as a new owner (I think; but can't recall seeing a BMW one now). Personally, I'd just skip all that, and just phone BMW Warranty directly to discuss it with them (number will be on the BMW website under the Owner bit I guess).

You should get full breakdown cover throughout the warranty period but I'd also check this.

You might also get online services, if you've got sat nav, as this became free for 3 years (originally you only got a trial period). Ask about this too.

tis a good idea to get the car checked out by BWM, but i had a full RAC inspection just last week so know the car is in tip top condition

i just didnt know where to start with the lack of information that i had thats all. i'll check it all with BMW

Hi

Just go into your nearest dealer and explain the situation to them. They will be keen to keep you as a customer so they should sort everything out for you.

You will also be able to tell if there has been any work done on the car - servicing etc. If so, you may be able to find out where and to obtain copies of invoices etc.

The BMW UK new car 3year warranty resides with the vehicle not the owner, so there's no need to tell BMW anything.

Again, the 3 year BMW recovery is attached with the warranty, so no need to do anything either.


As long as you can show its been serviced properly that's all you need in the event of a claim on the warranty.

Letting BMW know your details is just so that they can send you loads of marketing shite in the post.

If there is a safety recall on the car they will trace you via DVLA and the chassis number.
