Friction Stir Welding. If you don't know what it is, its important to watch 5:00 to 5:45 at the minimum.
EDIT: And the title is a joke. This would be entirely unrealistic for downpipes because it leaves a hole in the material and wouldn't weld the flanges or bungs. Oh, and your music aint' got shit on this! Here is a reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friction_stir_welding [u2b]<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jCe8-QYKZf4&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jCe8-QYKZf4&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>[/u2b] Last edited by klipseracer; 06-18-2010 at 04:12 AM.. |

Yep, Aerospace seems to be the most common use. This avoids the downfalls related to melting the metals and then cooling. Sometimes metals aren't treatable after welding traditionally and you can wind up with a brittle or weak seam. This never melts the metal, just softens it up enough through friction to be malleable.

You guys at ar design have some of the best welds in the N54 community.

I think he means converting to a larger single turbo setup and running a 4" exhaust from there. I just wonder if/how much better a single turbo would run on the N54 if someone were to go about doing it.. Super nice welds btw!
