My OEM Potenzas finally morted out at about 15,000 miles. Just got the Hankook Ventus V12 evos installed. 265/30/19 rear, 235/35/19 front. 10mm wider than stock all around. $877 installed at Les Schwab tires. I could have got them a bit cheaper from an online tire retailer...but I get free lifetime repair, balance, roadside hazard, and a few other benefits.

They definitely ride better...much quieter and less jarring over bumps. DTC kicks in a little earlier than the potenzas did. I'll give a more thorough review after I break em' in properly.

Sweet! They came in 2nd in a tire test, Dunlops were 1st, and the Pilot PS2 was the benchmark.

I've eyed them before, online same size as yours, there was a deal for just under $1000 incl. the rims.

What is break in period on tires?

I think something like 300 miles.

i read from many that the sidewall is too soft for hard cornering... have you taken any hard turns?

I've read that they will feel better after 1000 miles or so...I think the big thing will be getting a feel for how they behave versus the super stiff sidewall Potenza RFTs.

I took the fun way to work tonight...some decent twisties and fun on/off ramps. They do not feel as planted as the potenzas...DTC kicked on much earlier than before. I did take a few pretty hard turns...they don't feel as confident as the Bridgestones...but they did make the car go where I pointed it. I also braked pretty hard from about 80 mph and they didn't seem to want to stop the car as surefootedly as the potenzas.

Reading the car and driver comparison test, car and driver did remark that...while the Hankooks didn't necessarily feel as strong as some of the other tires...in the end they wound up producing better numbers as far as slalom, braking, wet and dry handling, etc. I can see that...Of course with only about 40 miles on the Hankooks I can't really say anything definitively

I recently switched to some Pirelli's.
I had gotten rather tired of the poor ride quality the Bridgestones had. The Pirelli's are indeed softer, but seem to feel "floaty" in more enthusiastic driving situations.

I'm VERY disappointed.

Tribute to BMW's 50/50 weight distribution. I had the front tires installed 3 weeks before the rears. I didn't notice a difference during the time of RFT and NO-RFTs being on the car. Once it transitioned to front and rear NON-RFTs, the car drastically changed.

My 2cents, listen to BMW. Stick with RFTs!!!!!

Dave, that brings up the question (for all): what high-performance runflat tires does everyone recommend? I'll probably have to change mine out in ~5000 miles or less.

I pondered the issue of our cars being engineered for RFTs...but soooo many people on here hate them...and talk about how much better the non-RFTs are. I thought i'd give the non-RFTs a try. Considering tires only last about 15,000 miles for me, worst case scenario I endure a softer tire for a year...I haven't pushed these tires hard enough to see how they react to very hard driving. I'll be doing a track day in August or September and see how they respond.

I'm not quite ready to declare these tires (or other non-RFTs)inferior when placed on an E9x...

Just got my new hankooks, gotta say the ride is much better. A lot smoother and a whole lot quieter. I would agree with the sharp turns, that they don't feel as good as the OEM Bridgestones. Overall I'd keep the Hankooks.

I'm getting my hankooks tomorrow in the exact size that you have and on the same 230 wheels. I'm curious to know what psi you are running front and back? Same as the RFTs or different?

I'm running 35/37 PSI F/R with 235/40/18 and 255/35/18. The car performs well and has been tested on the Nurburgring with these settings. I recently tested a 335i with 43 PSI, is was too unstable on non perfect roads to feel safe, where my car can be runned without issues.

all cheapo tyres will not be as good as top of the line. POtenzas are top of the line, whether you like the jarring ride or not. I'm sure if you got non RFT potenzas you'd be very pleased in terms of comfort.

I think from cheapo tyres the INVO seems to be one of the good ones, while I personally will stick with Michelin PS2 / GOodyear Eagle F1 / ContiSport . My dad always said that you should buy the BEST tyres you can afford and I tend to follow this advice. No cheap chinese tyres for me until they learn how to make them properly.

I have had my Hankooks for six months now. I like to run it up on certain roads, so I pumped up the tires according to the label on my car door:

"For speeds up to and over 100mph, the following is recommended (whether or not they are RFTs): 39 psi front/45 psi rear."

When I increased the pressure, handling performance and feel approached that of the B/S Potenza RFTs. Try pumping up the pressure. The tires are rated at a higher load rate and my vehicle tracks much better with increased psi.

Check your Driver side door jamb to see recommended tire pressure....then....enjoy!

OBTW, I have a Quaife, so I turn off my nanny controls all the time.

I have a set of these and have been very pleased with them. I actually took them to a HPDE event after about 500 miles and drove them 130+MPH on the track. This was the one area where they were decidedly inferior to the Potenzas. The RFTs have such a rigid sidewall that turn-in is immediate, whereas the Hankooks are somewhat less so. That said, they didn't chunk as much as the Potenzas, nor did they get slick from overheating as quickly. On the road, they're vastly more comfortable and work great even in very wet conditions.

Also I seen $50 Rebate out there for these tires, I just ordered factory Sport pkg. staggered replacements ! Seems like a Good Bang for Buck setup!
