BMW Performance Exhaust drone

Just got mine...it has drone on the highway esp in the 2000-3000 rpm range. Anyone else notice this?

Otherwise, the exhaust system is very good...a little loud still.

I think the Performance Exhaust is one of the most drone-free setups... might be different on the e90 though

No drone for me. I think yours is not installed correctly and it possibly hits the heat shield in some places. Go back to the dealer and have him inspect the exhaust.

I have rarely a strange sound midrange only when it is warming up. But never when hot.

Same on the E92 and the E90..

But i agree, even the stock e92 exhaust on mine with golf tee mod it drones. If it drones really bad, the install was probably not done right and you have a leak somewhere.

+1.

I would expect the drone to be more noticeable w/ the performance exhaust.

Be careful about getting rid of the cats...not sure about Canada, but here in the US (some states), it can be a $10K fine if you get caught without them during inspection.

Thanks for the feedback, cause of your complaint i will forget about buying a perf exh. I was scared of the drone and would be totally embarrassed if i had passengers. They will be thinking "why is your car soo loud? how old are you" I cant deal with that anymore lol.

sorry to dispute th OP statement of DRONE....

there is no droning noise present in this setup.. if there is its an install problem..

ask yourself this.. even though this is a performance part.. it still @ least has a 2yr unlimited parts warranty.. amd nowhere, I mean nowhere has this been documented as fact on this part. that would be the pits for the parts department, to have to refund a decent chuck of change, for something that irritated the customer.. and believe me.. there would be more people out there saying the same thing .. dont you think?
i've had mine close to 2yrs, and no complaint throughout the RPM range.. and I've had trash exhaust on cars before -- 2.5in MagnaFlows on a 5.0l will rattle you teeth at 2100RPM

dont believe the hype..

I'm old..(relative to most on here it seems) and I think it's fine. At 80mph on the highway there is a slight increase in tone. It's not drone, just a very slight increase in the overall exhaust volume. I seriously doubt anyone riding in your car would even notice.

Cold start? That's another issue. In areas where a deep sound has a chance to bounce and resonate, like in a garage or in a community where houses are close together, it can be a bit loud. It's not as bad as some people would imply, but if you regularly start your car in your garage at 5am, your popularity with your neighbors is probably going to decline...

Fair arguement, ive installed fart cans dynomax/hks/greddy/blitz exhaust on hondas/toyotas since 1996 and back then it was like wow it sounds cool! Being young as the obnoxious would validate my age which never seems to bug me. I guess all im saying is ive heard enough exh tone in my life time and the oem tone is just right for me. Thanks for your great insight guys
