Window adjustment on an E92
Hi Guys,
Was wondering if anyone has had issues with wind noise on the "frame-less" E92 windows? Have taken car to the dealer twice due to wind noise at speeds between 115-120 km/h. The second visit seems to have almost eliminated wind noise at just above 120km/h. I have been doing some 3rd gear pulls testing the Autotune function on the Procede. 3rd gear @ 6000rpm equates to around 145km/h. On approaching this speed it seems that the windows are being "sucked" away and off the window rubber by the vacuum created around the "A" pillar at speeds above 125km/h resulting in significant wind noise at 140km/h. Further window adjustment required, new window/door frame seals?? One of my pet hates is any car rattles, creaks or wind noise. In comparison my E46 330Ci was quiet as a mouse at 180km/h. Same window set-up. Any help or advice would be much appreciated?? PS: Yes, I do know the speed limit on most of our freeways is 110km/h. This is strictly for off-road use.

Mine is fine. Sounds like the door seals don't line up with the glass. Are they old or cracked? Has the car had accident repair and the alignment of the door is out slightly?

Car has 20,000kms on it. I bought the car with 9000kms on the clock. I got my dealer to look over the car as it was a private sale. Wanted to check with them regarding the pattern of the paint on the inside of the front guards, where it is bolted to the body, under the area covered by the bonnet. It is glossy then fades to a matte colour. Checked a brand new E92 of the same colour in the showroom and the pattern/finish was exactly the same. Pattern is due to engine bay being painted a matte colour and due to the bonnet being closed when it is painted in the factory, allowing gloss paint to flow in between the gaps between the bonnet and guard. Dealer also has a body shop and so had the car inspected there as well. As such, no evidence of panel repairs or accidents were found. Doors, boot, bonnet open and close perfectly. SOLD ! Dealer says that the seals are fine, as the car is only a couple of years old. It may just be my car. If anyone else has had the same problem, please chime in. Otherwise I think that maybe a gentle suggestion to my dealer for a change of seals might be in order. Cheers.

I've got the same problem after the seals were taken off my car when I went widebody and re-sprayed the car! Not exactly sure what the issue is but the windows seem a bit more wobblely than I remember when the car door is open!
I'm going to ask the bodyshop what exactly he did so I might find out the cause.

Have picked up the car from the dealer after getting these windows looked at.
Drove car last night. I can now say the car is quiet now without wind noise eminating from the window seals, even at 160km/h. Just as BMW intended. The dealer had the master tech look at it. There is a cam type adjustment at the bottom end of the window runner. This can angle the top of the window in and out from the base. Both sides were out by the same amount. Master tech also noticed that the pre-load on both doors was not quite enough and adjusted the striker in about 1mm on both sides. Did not notice any indiscrepancy before, but both doors line up perfectly with the body. This has made all the difference. Can now use the phone at highway speeds without having to listen to that hissing noise right at ear level. Wish this could have been sorted the first time round.
