Fastest E9X
I’m really surprised that (and forgive me if someone actually has) no one has ever considered some sort of competition which could be held over a period of time at the santa pod drag strip.
How good would it be to have everyone who wanted to enter go into a draw, and then get drawn against their opponent, they would then have a set time in which they must get the race completed in, and they would arrange this between themselves. It could be on a knock out basis and the final could be streamed live on the forum. There would of course be no restriction to the cars, as long as it was an E9X of sort’s entry would be permitted. We would finally see who is the chosen one |

I'm not entirely sure that it would be such a fair competition. Around a circuit. yes... as it involves driver skill and not just the raw power of the the car. Of course, it depends on the caliber of the car that enters - but a straight knockout competition where there's a high possibility that a 335i or M3 could come up against a 320/330 - is a little unfair! Perhaps a seeding system? so all the 318's/ 320's / 330's/ 335's/ M3's would have their own 'heats' and then fight the big boys later? I wouldn't partake myself...just giving some ideas

I will need my own category - fastest at getting to the shops and back to pick up two loads of shopping (unless anyone has a chipped 335d or 335i Touring here?!)
And quickest to the beach with a dog, child, wife and two surfboards. Or maybe "quickest 318d lookalike?" |

I ran at Santa Pod 9 times in 2009. Beat all manner of cars, from E92 M3's to VXR8's etc.
Great fun beating Audi's S5's RS4's etc. Several members have ripped up Santa Pod over the years. I even organised a meet there in March 2009. Vaheed, I'd like to see you launch a car. Considering you think it takes no skill I'm quite sure you would be utter pants at it.

A perfect blend of power and traction. You don't want excessive wheelspin nor bog down. Alot of people ''think'' they can get off the line properly. Many can't. Some are more natural than others. With practise you can get better of course.
Some superb cars at Santa Pod are majorly let down by their owners. Its Hilarious to watch sometimes. E92 Manual M3's usually launched terribly. They wheelspin easily with much revs, bog down with low revs so can be hard to get a great time. With a nice sticky set of tyres and a good driver a good launch will set you off for a good time.

In your 335d auto Carlos, do you hold it on the brake and raise the revs to the equivalent of a "biting point"? What is this in a derv - around 2.5k revs? Must admit I've never even thought to try this so don't know what its like. Do you then side step the brake and mash the go pedal, or do you need to be a bit smoother?
I guess the ATF in the torque converter would get warmed up by this action so best not held for too long or it'll burn/cook/shear! |

3K is a pretty brutal launch on a 335d. Making full torque long before then. You do have to modulate the throttle.

No doubt, it takes lots of skill to launch.... the start i.e correct amount of wheelspin, the timings for gear change etc...
but I think Vaheed meant it would actually take more to go round a circuit....as u need to need to get the launch, racing lines right, the driving techniques, the attitude, judgement etc... |
