330i vs 325i
Rite ... some of you may have helped me in my other thread and I've decided to go with petrol... (thanks for that)
But one last issue to resolve before i place the order..!! decisions, decisions 330 or 325 the price difference is around £3,000 ... (Auto) 330 272(HP) 6.2(0-62) 325 218(HP) 7.1(0-62) Last edited by nips; 07-14-2010 at 03:02 PM.. Reason: formatting |

Ignore those silly 0-62 times mostly irrelevant imo and experience, and yes I'm reading them the correct way around.
According to your figures there's a 54 bhp differential between the two engines. On a N/A petrol engine 54 bhp equates to a noticeable difference, especially mid range ie your most important overtaking area and abilities of the car. I had a 330i from new on a 2006 plate and that needed to be revved to get the most out of it so for me a 325i will require even more 'buzzing' as it's the same body weight of car but down on bhp. Driven hard I would have thought the 325i would actually use more fuel because of the latter? Overall for me the 330i engine has less work to do for the desired end results. Up to you. |

Suggest you drive both.
I went for 330i and haven't regretted a moment - it can be docile unfussed and unstressed for the majority (sadly given the amount of traffic these days) or snarling scary and unstressed given the chance. Awesome bullet proof engine and great soundtrack. |

the 325 3 litre version is very close to the 330 but may provide you lower insurance, like other people said, prob worth just doin test drives in both, all depends on what your after, personally for me the faster the better and MPG etc doesnt really bother me.

330i, and that's from a 325i owner!
Get the extra power, you will soon become frustrated with the lack of grunt of the 325i Beautiful noise wringing the nuts off of it, but bloody frustrating when you get nowhere fast.

330i...not because i have one but because i test drove both when buying and 325i felt too slow to me.
Bare in mind though i drove the convertibles which are considerbly heavier (extra 250kg) than the coupe so the performance difference was much more noticable. |

Also why buy a 330i when you could just buy a 335i (insurance permitting, but buying a 330i has the same consequences anyway because of the turbo factor??) I see a natural jump from a 325i to a 335i simply because of the addition of turbo's. Is there really that much difference in running a 330i and 335i fundamentally? I'd rephrase the question personally as 325i v 335i. (335i all day, insurance permitting) Good luck with the purchase |

325i is quite lacking in torque and needs a lot of revs and gear changing to make decent progress. Not sure how much better the 330i is but would imagine it has more low down grunt. 335i is the job if you want petrol as the turbo gives a lot more shove.

The answer is in your wallet (or shortly to be what was in your wallet ).
If you can afford the 330i then it's going to be the better all round car; full stop. If you think you may be able to stretch to a 335i then that's an absolute belter of a car; I'd dangle the carrot with the dealer and see what wonderous deal he can come up with. The fact you're asking whether the £3k extra is worth it implies it's affordable. I wonder what extra a 335i is (any nearly new ones/ex-demo's of the latest model around yet???). You'll be happy with any of them in fairness, as Sonny says, it's all relative, but the higher the ladder you can climb the bigger the smile will be; depends if you're afraid of heights

Why buy a £80 wallet when you can buy a £20 almost identical wallet and have £60 left over to go in it?
Thing is, are you really going to notice the difference in power on these UK roads? I have a remapped car but can’t use the power 80% of the time and when I do get a cheeky one in I am constantly on the look-out for those long overdue blue lights… The cars look the same just different power. I would probably save the 2k and go for a 325i. Spend 1k on some fancy mods or something techy for your lounge or a holiday or... |

Yes but you buy one because you can and you would like one surely?
So why do any of us buy or have owned true performance cars in every sense........because if you can it's bloody fantastic if you're a petrol head. I appreciate there are areas of the country where the blue lights are ever present, but who knows, the OP may be fortunate to live in or near areas where he knows he can 'play'. There are still loads out there - honest. |

Similar decision myself a few months ago SO drove both and the 330i is quite a big step up, as with anything in this day and age you get what you pay for and imo the 330 is worth every penny more, however if I didn't have 3 daughters it would of been 335i all the way.

If you're having an auto, get the 330. The loss of torque in the 325 will make the auto box a pain to live with IMO.
