N54 Running Cooler in Summer Heat?

So this is my first summer with my baby, and I was expecting my oil temps to shoot through the roof (they hover at 230-240 in the winter) this summer in the 100+ degree heat. However, it seems that the opposite is true.

While it has been hot, I haven't really changed my driving habits at all, yet my oil temp regularly reads 220 or lower. Even during mid day with the A/C full blast and driving in traffic.

Is this simply the car retarding the timing/lowering the boost/increasing fan speed to keep up with the extra demand heat places on the engine?

Also, is it safe to run my JB+ in my car or should I keep it out till the temps outside become a little more reasonable? I'm worried about knocking and the lack of extra timing control that the 'big boy' tunes come with. I'll be running default.

As a side note, my gas mileage has dropped dramatically from about 20 around town down to 16ish, and I now know the definition of heatsoak that everybody has been telling me about!

Thanks.

I work at Walter Reed in DC and spend over an hour in the morn and afternoon in DC traffic. My temps have been a bit lower and I can hear my radiator fans over morning talk radio haha. I too am getting mid 16 average MPG. Woohoo! Can't wait for 50* fall days!

I purchased my 335 2 months ago. I can't wait since all I have driven in is extreme heat. What kind of power gains to do you get when the temps go into 40 - 60 F from 90+F?

Any car will feel the difference for sure, that unfortunate part is the stock ECU reduces boost in cold weather and increases boost in hot weather.... (which is A$s backwards to me lol).

Procede doesnt do that FTW

Even the stock car does feel like a dog in nasty hot temps. Tuned or not, you will notice a difference.

It has to do with the fan speed your AC is set to. I noticed the same thing in my car ONLY if i have the AC cranked up pretty high (at least half way or more). I think once the AC is set high, the fans in front of the radiator stay running non stop which is prolly why we are seeing lower oil temps even when its 95+ out.

Once i turn the AC off and i'll see the temps rise back to around 245-250.

+1...a lot of it has to do with intake air temp, too. Cooler, denser air makes any engine run better. The lower gas mileage is due to "summer blends" where they try to oxygenate the fuel more, meaning more ethanol, which cuts mileage. Gee...since people drive more in the summer than winter, I wonder if that could just be for air quality or...SELLING MORE GASOLINE?????

I don't have a oil cooler and haven't had a issue. Unless you track your car, you don't need one, at least i don't. Reading on this forum people act like the temps will go through the roof once it hits 90 degrees. Here in NJ its been 90-100 for 3 weeks and my temps are the same as in the winter with the same driving style. ha
