Trade in the 320 for an older 330i or 330d?
Folks,
I'm in need of some advice. I'm thinking of trading my 2008 320i in for a larger engined E92. I love the car, it just lacks oomph, and my insurance is not a bad as I thought considering i'm 20. Would it be sensible to trade the car in for an older one through the Approved Used BMW Scheme? What payment options would that give me? All help appreciated Scott |

It's not worthwhile IMHO.
You would be trading a 2 year old car for another car about the same age and losing several thousand in the process both in the additional cost of a higher spec car and paying the dealers profit. Also you are 20 and a 320i coupe is already a nice car for a 20yo and plenty of time to get something better late on. If I was 20 again I'd spend the money and time on something more useful and satisfying, like going on an extended overseas holiday or going out and picking up girls. |

well, you almost always loose money when you change car. loose a bit on your own, and costs a bit more for the new one. first thing to do is to work out how much yours is worth and the cost to change to the one that you want and see if the difference is worth it. you'll already know the car and like you say the only difference will be a bit more oooomph!
as mentioned though, you do have a nice car for a 20 year old |

I can see your point, and thanks!
The car has been in twice now for lack of power and injector problems, and I feel its probably going to happen again due to the symptoms re-appearing. my main worry is this happening again when it runs out of warranty in March. I've always toyed with the idea of getting nicer alloys, subtle mods and keeping it. But it's good to hear others opinions on it. The cars just ticked over 25K miles, and does run well most of the time. |

I've considered doing the same thing but the price difference between what I would get for my 2008 320i and practically any 330x AUC is outrageous.
In fact I think that it would be cheaper for me to retrofit DAB (£500), iDrive (£2000), Leather (£1200), MV3s (£700), bigger Engine (Maybe not) |

I've even looked at trading it in for a 120d M sport coupe, and map it or buy a box to get more power. I like the 1 coupe, but still unsure. As I type this, I get the urge to just spend some £££ and get CLS reps or new alloys, some subtle mods and see how it goes. But I feel the SE needs a drop when changing the alloys and this opens up a can of worms in my eyes. |

IMHO the sensible thing for me to do is to hang onto the car for a couple more years with a BMW Warranty. The depreciation curve seems to really ease of in yesar 3-4 so I probably wont lose that much more by waiting. It will also give me a chance to save some money towards my next car and I intend to make sure that it is "fully loaded" |

Does not matter how nice an E92 is. Or how ''Fully Loaded'' it is. You cannot beat having the grunt under the right foot.
I Don't think I could ever consider having a low powered 3 series now.

Hi,
If you're not to fussed about the age and model of the car...why not try something like a 2004 330cd (2004bhp) M sport. I had one a few years back and even now, I think it's a great looking and imposing car. Re-map it and stick a few other bits and bobs on it and you will have plenty of power and great looks to boot. |

Sell yours privately then buy one.
PXing is a sure fire way of losing money.

Changing your car will not make any financial sense but.... If we all did this no-one would buy a car above the bare minimum they need. If you can afford it then do it. There is an appreciable difference between your car and a 330 i/d just make sure you know the insurance and running costs before you do the deal.

Im the same, I went from an E46 320CD, to and E91 330D and now the E92 335D, i will be changing the car next year but I dont know what else will give me what i get from this car, i could not go into a lower powered BMW, it would kill me knowing what i used to have! Think if i dont change i will be going for a remap when the warranty is out |

will there be any issues re my warranty though? Things always go wrong for me an i can just see me getting it done, something going wrong, them finding the map and then being shafted out of warranty.
That said ive never been in a remapped 335 and can imagine it to be pretty amazing, have you had yours done? If so who by and what sort of gains did you get? |
