Installed Vishnu Procede, Now says Engine Malfunction?

So I installed my Procede a little while ago, followed the instructions/video to a T...

I start the car, it runs for several minutes as they say to do...OK I thought, no problems.

Well, I go back out to move my car into the garage, when putting the key in the ignition and enabling the ignition it shows an ! on the display and Service Engine Soon.

The car starts up fine though and I move it.

Then, 5 minutes later I need to pull it up a little further, put the key in, and now it gives the: Engine Malfuntion on the iScreen saying might be able to operate at a reduced power, get to BMW...blah blah.

Try to start the car, it won't turn over at all now???

Anybody got some ideas? I really don't want to take the darn thing all apart again now and take the tune out and put it back to stock...but guess maybe I will have to.

It's the latest Procede v4 Canbus, I was told it had the latest autotune etc...before shipped to me, just got it from them last week and now had time to put it in this weekend.

A little frustrated to say the least, good thing I have another car to drive because it's 8pm now, I got a shop light but it sucks in my garage trying to do this all again. Don't feel like being up until 10pm with work tomorrow because of this darn thing.

I double/triple checked all connectins before putting the ECU cover on, I think it is all correct because it fired right up 2x times.

Any ideas appreciated or troubleshooting to help.

Thanks

At this point you need to go back into the ECU to make sure everything is hooked up correctly even though you think you may have followed the directions to a T..Alot of people like myself have done mistakes even though we felt we followed directions carefully....You need to see if the ECU connectors are seated properly, see if the power wire to the green connector is hooked up properly (alot of people mess up this connection) There is something definitely not hooked up right and having ample lighting will help...I suggest doing it when you get home from work instead of going at it again tonight without any proper lighting it will be hard to troubleshoot it...Good luck either way, but if all else fails call Vishnu support tomorrow and they will call you back if you specify when its the BEST time to call you.

Remember just because the car fired up twice doesn't mean its hooked up correctly still...Hooked up correctly you should have no limp modes or codes for the matter..

If it weren't Sunday Funday I'd say to utilize Vishnu's great customer service...they can walk you thru everything.. It's kinda hard to diagnose stuff like this over the web..so just go thru everything and contact Vishnu

even though you double/quadruple checked everything, something is not hooked up right. Make sure it's all seated properly..sometimes it might feel seated but really not.

Alright, so I went back out...used Procede routine with the doors shut, ignition on and gas peddle to the floor to check the codes.

It is giving the Engine Malfunction in the iDrive and the engine half shaded on the dash display.

I clear it...it comes back when I do the procedure again.

Anyway, if I just get in the car, shut the doors, put the key in and try to start the car, it is starting right up now fine. Did it several times and no engine malfunction comes on while sitting/idling/revving or prior to start.

It's raining here, and I detailed and cleaned the car all up and don't want to go tooling down the road in the rain and have it die on me on a test drive, that wouldn't be fun out in the wet with a car if it goes into limp or dies. Then, have to call my wife in her negligee and robe to come get me.

I think I will fire it up in the morning and run it around the neighborhood before I think about driving it to work. Bumper to bumper Monday rush hour wouldn't be a good place either for it to go limp mode...haha..will bring tools in case I have to put it back to stock on the side of the road.

If it gives me problems, I guess I will just call in sick maybe, work on it and call Vish and double check everything.

Either that, or my HPFP is going out...that also sounds about right.

Thanks

Are you doing the code read and clear procedure?
See Here:

The half engine light is part of that process to let you know the read function is activated.

Good luck...I just put mine in on Friday!

I was getting similar codes when I loaded new maps without having the proper firmware. It would start up normal, but gave me the half engine with a high rev accelleration.

Download the beta maps and firmware at the Vishnu forum. Plug your laptop into the Procede, select Comms, go online, then select update firmware. Loadthe new firmware, then the maps. Even though you were told it was shipped with the latest it won't hurt to go through this again. If you've already done all this then it might be a hardware/install thing

As others have said, check your connections... I had a piece of felt tape fall into the DME area where the connectors were and I had the engine malfunction happen...

The first thing is to take it apart and reinstall it...

After that not sure since it seems to fix most everything...

Check & double check the GREEN connection. I had the same issues with my first install & was freaking out. I called Vishnu & they diagnosed the problem over the phone. Those wires have to be perfectly placed. Good luck. If that doesn't fix it shoot them emails. They are pretty good about answering questions well outside of normal work hours.

OP-- should be pretty to troubleshoot. All we need you to do is read the code which you can do with the Procede. Feel free to call us tomorrow during business hours and we can walk you through things.

Ok, I saw that in the video, and that part seems normal to me.

But, it's the iDrive Engine Malfunction screen that has me a bit confused when doing the procedure, because nowhere does it say that is normal, since they have no video or mention of it anywhere.

Thanks

Just a quick update. I am probably going to call Shiv later anyway just to verify some stuff that isn't documented...but...

The question I really need answered is when doing the Diag/Code check, is it normal for it to display Engine Malfunction on the iDrive screen? The half shaded engine on the display seems normal according to the video and no other codes flash up, it just sits on the half shaded engine. But that Engine Malfunction on the iDrive is a tad disconcerting, unless normal, then Ok.

This morning I came out to test drive it, started right up, drove around the neighborhood, I never got on it, 18mph speed limit..haha.

Temp came and all seems good, no codes on the display, so I decided to drive it to work.

It started back up and ran perfect all the way in 20+ miles. I can tell the tune is working. I jumped on it on the onramp and it really started moving, faster than my 2003 stock M3 I had for sure. Suspension is a little squirelly and torque steer, hopefully when my Konis arrive along with my Eibach, that will help, if not, sways might be in order, didn't like that feeling it gives at all. Not very confident inspiring the stock sport suspension.

Thanks

Yes, that's normal when you start the read/clear codes procedure.

Totally normal. The half engine light that pops up during the 1st step of the code check/clear procedure, as per the video, is just to provide visual confirmation that the procede has checked for/read codes. Even if there are non present, the half-engine light icon will still illuminate. The 2nd part of the procedure (the 2nd throttle pump) will clear codes (if any) and turn off the MIL light.

Those cars with idrive will also see an 'engine malfunction" message on the idrive since that goes hand-in-hand with the engine malfunction light (half engine) on the dash.

So it looks like everything is working fine. Any questions, don't hesitate to call us.

Thanks Calvin...I appreciate that.

I was pretty much 100% sure I installed it correctly, took me over an hour, I was extremely meticulous.

It was those two questions I was unsure of, particularly that Engine Malfunction.

But it starts and hauls ass for sure now!

Thanks
