Im receiving my 328 coupe soon but I am asking them to not apply any wax during car prep when the dealership gets the car. I have some of the gold class clear coat meguiars stuff. Is that a good wax? also do I need to use a polish before I apply that or is that going to be good enough protection + look good. Also should I apply more than one coat?

It's a decent wax for the one's you can get on the store (I personally prefer Mother's Reflections, but it's personal preference), but the brands you can purchase online (e.g. Pinnacle, Poor Boy's, Zaino, Klasse) are much better for a similar price. And if you just got the car, then you probably want to do the whole process - Wash, Clay, Wash, Polish, Seal, Wax - or some form of that because the transport from production plant to Canada caused particles to latch onto the paint that could be really damaging if you don't get rid of it with a claybar.

A minumum must for all new cars after deliverys
1. Tell the dealer not to touch the outside of the car ( wash or wax )
2. Wash and clay the car.
3. Polish the paint if the car shows swirl marks ( look at it in the sun or under a work lamp )
4. One coat of wax is all you need, two coats might extend the protection a little, but it should depend on how long you go in between detailings.

There are several excellent web sites that go into more detail regarding car protection that you may be interested in. Also, we have two very good detailers on this forum that have a '101' thread to refer to.

Agree with above. GC is ok but for some reason I do not really like it. I have a bottle just sitting there. Mothers Reflections or Synwax FX are better, so is Meguiars NXT. All should protect well. I would also recommend claying the car prior to sealing.

You are ahead of the game by having the sense to not let the dealership touch the exterior of your car. I used Meguiar's Gold Class several years ago when I was just learning the art of detailing. There is nothing wrong with the product, and it will look great if applied correctly. Over time you may decide to use other products, but in the end it is more how you prep the car than the wax or sealant you finish with. Go to autopia.org and go through the basic tutorials. It is not rocket science, and once learned you will be able to keep your car in "better than new" condition indefinitely.

i think you're fine with meguiars. it's a decent wax and if you apply it maybe every or every other month, you'll be just fine (for protection and an OK-shine).

i sure hope he doesn't have any swirls on a brand new car, especially if he adheres to your point #1.

wow, you're hardcore! is this all really necessary? the guy just asked about an off-the-shelf wax, it doesn't seem he wants detailing become his full time job.

The best thing you can do for your new car is to clay the paint. There is so much crap stuck to it when you look closely and you don't want to wax over it.

If you are not into detailing and just want to protect the car a bit and have it look decent then GC is fine. NXT would be better and is about the same price. The Megs clay kit is like $15 and easy to find so you might want to do it at least before the initial wax.
