Remap (Evolve, JB, DMS etc)
I am keen to have my 335i remapped and have seen some very good reviews.
My car is 3 years old now so warranty is not an issue, but I do not want to sacrifice the reliability of the car for the extra power. How have people found the on going running of the remap? any issues? Would anyone recommend it? What power gains should i be looking at to keep good reliability? Thanks |

Hi, had my car remapped in July of last year and have been happy ever since. No reliability issues at all. Would not and will not hesitate to get my next car remapped by Evolve, top guys! http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=281191

Mine was Evolved at 6 weeks old. 18 months and 30k miles later, car hasn't had a single fault.

Had mine remapped by evolve 2 years ago, no problems at all which includes the ring a couple of times and a few top speed runs. I know there are a few remapers now, but Evolve are just excellent.

Plus loads of others if I do a web search. So my question is this: why should I spend, say £350 with one company compared to £1000 ish with another, when they all seem to do the same thing? How do I know if I'm getting value for money? And are they really all the same? If not what's the difference? Actually that's 4 questions, sorry. Anyone know the answers? Mike. |

I know the software isn't identical, value for money difficult to answer for those company's I have no experience with.
Evolve are somewhere in the middle for pricing, the customer service is brill, the software is fantastic (I think they write it themselves). So my personal experience for the product as a whole is very good value for money. If in the future I need these specialist services again, Evolve is the place I will go. |

You can rip it out in ten minutes, car is stock, and you can sell it. So its even MORE cost effective than the diff between £1000 remaps and a tuning box. Its a great bit of firmware, and top quaility tech support from BMS. Why pay more? There are many hundreds of Juiceboxes out there, many in the hottest desert climates of the US and middle east where conditions for turbos are very challenging. I havent heard of any big hardware issues from a tuning box yet. This engine is VERY strong. Remember turbo charging is not actually hard on engines, not like raising the RPM limits on a N/A lump for example. So upping boost, if done properly, is quite safe. |

The issue at the moment when comparing JB3 with flash tunes is how power is delivered. JB3s current boost targeting does lead to some boost overshoot resulting in surging and a less linear power delivery in comparison to a flash tune. However, this is soon to be resolved with CAN integration.

With the JB3 and the new G4 JB3 the control is in your hands. Grows with your mods like FMIC, downpipes etc without the need for new maps.
Simply choose between a set of pre set MAPs to suit your hp/tq and mod requirements. You can even custom create your own maps for the technically minded. The new G4 unit will offer the best in ECU flash benefits from reading CAN data and also piggy back tuning like providing laptop datalogging and settings control via the JB3 software...see here for new features http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=436666 The manufacturers customer support is world class (Burger Motor Sport) and they offer upgrade paths on new versions along with free firmware/software updates as new features are released. Burger Motor Sport are up at the top with some of the worlds fastest 1/4 drag times as list on www.dragtimes.com Win for features and Win on the price too. |

I've just recently got an E92 335i and was talking to Evolve a couple of weeks ago about a possible remap. They definitely recommended having a new intercooler fitted (Forge) at the same time as doing the remap in order to get the car to run cooler - apparently the N54 engine runs pretty hot usually. To get remap plus intercooler comes out at £1400, so that does rather make this option quite a lot more expensive. I would be very happy to let Evolve do this work as I was very pleased with their remap of my previous E92, which was a 330i. Do you remapped 335i owners think a new intercooler is necessary? Or is it not worth the expense? |

An intercooler cools the induction air entering the engine making it more dense. It does not cool the engine per se or make the engine itself run any cooler.

Sorry bit off topic....
Out of curiosity, will a piggy back ecu like JB3 or JB+ work with/ be compatible with the BMW Performance Tuning Kit ( which includes a fan, radiator, some cooling ducts, and a bmw map) ??? |

One of the main benefits of the best flowing intercoolers is not just the lower air charge temps, but the reduced pressure drop (circa 1-2 psi less then the stock intercooler). This enables the engine to produce the same power at lower PSI - very important for turbo longevity when upping boost pressures. You don't want your turbines rotating faster then necessary - this creates unnecessary additional heat and wear on components. |
