High Mileage 330D SE
Ladies and Gents
Hi, noobie here after some advice: I'm thinking of getting a large diesel coupe and the E92 330D seems to float my boat. Trouble is my budget (low teens) will restrict me to something a bit leggy, over 100k miles. I currently run a 185K E39 Touring which is an awesome old barge and which just refuses to die, but I know nothing of these Coupes. Can anyone offer me any steers as to whether such a plan is fraught with danger or is the 330D lump a good un with many miles in them? What about the electrics and semi-auto transmissions? Appreciate your views. R101 |

330d has been out since 05 in saloons N
and I've not heard of any high mileage failures as of yet. Just be careful what you buy and make sure it has a full comprehensive service history how many miles do you expect to do per annum in it!? Welcome to the forum!

Mileage would be probably less than 10k per annum.
I haven't had a large turbo diesel engined car before and having read a PH thread on complex diesels (pumps and injectors at £1k each!!) there is an argument against getting a high mileage modern diesel due to the risk of financial ruin if anything goes bang, and concentrate on the cheaper less efficient large petrol engine. My 528 experience bears this out, as the engine seems just about run in and still pulls strongly. Thanks for the reply. R101 |

No issues that i've heard of
Maybe get the transmission fluid changed if it's an auto (independent specialist) on around 120k Make sure it's had a full history, check when the brakes needs replacing and also check tyre depths. Get the oil and filter changed at an independent with some good quality oil and i'm sure everything will be fine. Some owners have nearly 200k on their 6cylinder diesels with no issues. How far can you stretch - this one's been very well looked after : http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=432072 |

If Your worried about fuel pumps and injectors
then steer clear of the petrol BMW's. Denzil's are fine.

Mine had 50k-plus and didn't miss a beat. Not much of a guide but all I can offer. With 10k per ammun I wouldn't discount a 330i personally; you'd probably break even on costs.
Or, do you even want an E92, how's about an E46?? For low teens you're be able to get an absolute corker and, even thought I might be bias, still think they cut a fine figure. You'd have the pick of the bunch.

Yeah mate. And 325i's and 320i's.
But generally speaking the issues He is worried about in denzil BM's are an actual problem in petrol BM's!

my 330d sport saloon has just hit 93k miles, needs a service soon, but it drives as new. preventative maintenance is where its at. look after a high miler, and it will look after you.
you can buy mine for low teens if you want...
